Finnair supports The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program

“We understand that non-visible disabilities or conditions, such as those related to hearing, vision, chronic pain, anxiety or dementia, as well as forms of neurodiversity, can make travelling more challenging. That is why we are a member of The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program,” says Finnair’s Sustainability Manager Maiju Mattila. “This is part of our efforts to continuously improve the physical and digital accessibility of our products and services.”  

With the lanyards, which are bright green in colour and decorated with an easily recognisable sunflower design, you share to staff that you may: 

• Need more time to process information or more time to prepare themselves at check-in, boarding or disembarking.  
• Need clearer verbal instructions, as it can be difficult to understand facial expressions and/or body language.  
• Need help reading departure boards or signs.  
• Benefit from more information on what to expect before, during and after their flight.

If you're departing from Helsinki Airport, you can find the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyards from Finnair check in desk with the universal icon of accessibility. Sunflower lanyards are also available at our Transfer Service desks in the Schengen and non-Schengen areas of Helsinki Airport, near gates 29 and 52.

Individuals with hidden disabilities have the same access to services designed to assist persons with reduced mobility as those with visible disabilities. This includes the use of accessibility dedicated check-in desks and the option for preboarding.
