Culinary adventures above the clouds – taste the Finnish summer

From 20 May, our onboard menus welcome the flavours of Finnish summer to the skies. Available on European and long haul flights until 20 October, the new seasonal menus celebrate lightness, clarity and carefully crafted flavours — inspired by nature and designed to complement your journey. Our onboard sales and pre-order selections have also been refreshed, bringing you carefully chosen treats to enjoy throughout your journey. The menus on our flights change two to three times a year, and the complimentary meals served vary depending on the route, departure airport and time of the departure.

Strawberries and smoke – the taste of the Finnish summer in long-haul Business Class

This season’s menu brings together two elements that feel unmistakably summer in Finland: the gentle sweetness of fresh strawberries and the soft warmth of smoked flavours.

“In long-haul Business Class, strawberry, Finland’s Fruit of the Year 2026, appears throughout the menu, adding freshness to both savoury dishes and desserts. You’ll find it paired with cream cheese and fig in a light starter, or at its simplest in a tasty dessert, strawberry cake,” says Development Chef Sami Oksava from Finnair Kitchen.

Smoked fish, fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables reflect the clean, balanced style of Finnish cooking — flavours that are calm, honest and grounded, yet full of character.

Business Class

Long haul Business Class: Combining Finnish ingredients with destination vibes

In long-haul Business Class, the summer menu continues Finnair’s thoughtfully designed dining experience, combining Finnish ingredients with destination-inspired touches.

On our long-haul flights departing from Helsinki, you’ll be served two small starters, offering flavours such as salmon pastrami in sour milk sauce with cauliflower and lovage, or marinated whitefish with sour cream potato salad and dill mayonnaise, depending on your route. In addition, cream cheese with fig filling in tomato broth, crushed peas, strawberries, pickled tomatoes, jalapeno oil and almonds is served on every flight.

For the main course, you can choose from three options:

  • BBQ beef brisket in horseradish sauce, parsnip purée, torched potatoes, mushrooms, grilled corn and asparagus
  • Lovage marinated salmon with kale risotto, Brussels sprouts, cherry tomatoes and white wine sauce
  • Destination-inspired dishes reflecting local culinary traditions

The long-haul Business Class meal is topped off with either strawberry cake with rhubarb compote or chocolate cake with pistachio crème. Also, a selection of cheese with fig compote is served for cheese fans.

In Business Class on long-haul flights, in addition to meals, we offer small movie treats and snacks throughout the flight.

The wine selection updated for the summer

The wine selection for long-haul flights in Business Class has been updated to match the summer menu. As usual, the selection includes three different white wines, three different red wines and two dessert wines. The summer favourite, rosé wine, has also returned to our flights. This year it is a French, dry and elegant Pavillon de Montfleur.

This summer, our selection of white wines includes the Spanish, dry and fresh Altos de Torona Albariño with apple, citrus and apricot aromas, the French, dry and rich Sauvignon Blanc, Château Villa Bel Air Blanc, with notes of peach, mirabelle plum, exotic fruit and delicate florals, and the Austrian dry and vibrant Domaene Gobelsburg Riesling, a classic Austrian Riesling with crisp citrus, stone fruit and lively acidity.

The selection of red wines includes the Italian, medium-bodied and smooth Torre Raone Montepulciano d’Abruzzo with ripe red cherry, plum and gentle spice notes, the French full-bodied and elegant Château Villa Bel Air Graves Rouge with beautifully mature aromas of red fruits, subtle spice and a delicate floral note, and the Spanish full-bodied and velvety Vizar Prestigio, which serves elegant and complex aromas of blackberry, blueberry, violets and warm spices.

The selection of dessert wines includes two options: the French, sweet and lively Madame de Rayne with fresh notes of pineapple and grapefruit, and the Finnish Ainoa Kaste, which is a sweet and lightly sparkling dessert wine made from lingonberry, honey and meadowsweet, capturing the character of a Finnish summer forest.

Premium Economy

The menus of our long-haul Premium Economy Class are also updated, featuring lighter sauces, familiar favourites and seasonal touches inspired by Finnish summer. There are always two main course options available, depending on the destination.

On the menu for the summer season, options include, for example, chicken and shiitake mushrooms in Chikuzen sauce, steamed rice, carrots and green beans, or linguine pasta and prawns in Choron sauce with leek and green peas. In Premium Economy Class, a second meal is also served during the flight, which is lighter than the main meal.

In Premium Economy travel class, you can also choose the main meal using  Manage booking. Choosing the main course in advance is always worthwhile for extra peace of mind; This will ensure that you get the main course you like, even if it is also the favourite of other passengers on the flight.

In Premium Economy Class, a second, lighter meal is also served during the flight, such as scrambled eggs with sundried tomatoes, creamed spinach and potatoes served with a vegetable wrap. In addition to meals, you can enjoy a complimentary selection of hot and cold refreshments and alcoholic beverages, excluding sparkling wine, throughout the flight.

Economy Class

In Economy Class on long-haul flights, you can enjoy a tasty hot meal with non-alcoholic beverages and one complimentary glass of wine or mild alcoholic beverage (excluding sparkling wine). The main course varies depending on the destination.

On our longer flights, we will also serve you a light meal or snack with non-alcoholic beverages just before landing. You can easily buy more drinks and snacks from the in-flight selection through the entertainment system and pay for the purchases safely with your phone. The cabin crew will deliver the purchased items to your seat.

Meals for customers who have pre-ordered in advance will be served first on the flight.

In addition to a fresh sandwich, most sandwich meals include a smoothie, a chocolate bar and a cup of coffee or tea. You can choose the following options:

  • Northern Choice: a rye sandwich with cold-smoked salmon
  • Captain's Choice: a roasted beef sandwich
  • Vegetarian Choice: a Mediterranean sandwich with feta and hummus

In Breakfast Choice, in addition to a salami and cheese sandwich and coffee or tea, we serve you natural yoghurt with berry granola and apple. Our children’s meal, Kid’s Choice, includes a turkey and cheese sandwich, juice, Moomin candy, and an activity book and pens.

Select a special meal suitable for your diet online

If you have a special diet, you can choose a special meal for any long-haul flight or Business Class for European flights up to 24 hours before your flight departure in Manage booking on the Finnair.com website.

Meals are planned taking into account the specifics of the flight

When planning meals, we consider route destinations, travel lengths, and flight schedules. On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Nagoya and the midnight flight to Osaka, due to the late departure time of flights, we first offer a light meal in Business Class and a delicious brunch later during the flight. We offer brunch-style, lighter meals on these routes before landing, also in Premium Economy and Economy Classes.

Our cabin crew will be happy to tell you more about the in-flight service, which you can also find out about on our Nordic Kitchen page. In our travel updates, you can read more about the service on Iberia-operated flights to Madrid and Barcelona
