The recipe for Finnair's beloved blueberry juice drink is changing – more blueberries and a new, carbon-neutral packaging

Finnair is renewing the recipe for its iconic blueberry juice drink and removing the previously used grape juice concentrate from the juice drink. At first, the renewed juice drink will be available at K-Group's grocery stores in Finland, and in the coming weeks it will be gradually served on Finnair flights.

"Our famous signature blueberry juice drink will have an improved taste and consists of 12% blueberries. With product development, we renew the recipe and stop using the grape juice concentrate completely. Since the juice drink will only contain blueberries in the future, the color of the drink will be slightly lighter and may vary depending on the color of the raw material. With the new recipe, the juice drink has a clean and authentic taste of wild blueberries," says Lauri Ahonen, Concept & Category Manager at Finnair Kitchen.

The beverage packaging will also be renewed and will be carbon neutral and more environmentally friendly in the future. The packaging cap will be wood oil-based and even smaller, consuming 35% less material, and the carbon footprint of the packaging will be compensated 100%. Finnair’s branded blueberry juice drink is produced in Turku on the southwest coast of Finland, by leading European juice producer, Eckes-Granini. It is manufactured using 100% renewable energy.
The blueberry juice drink is made from wild blueberries that are collected from Finland and other EU countries, depending on the annual yield. The drink does not contain preservatives or artificial colours.

Last year, Finnair also brought its signature blueberry juice drink available to buy in supermarkets across Finland. In 2019, Finnair's customers enjoyed more than 800,000 liters of blueberry juice on Finnair flights.
