Below you'll find advice on what to do before, during and after your flight for travelling safely. Get to know our numerous health and safety measures designed to ensure your well-being throughout the journey.
Check entry requirements
When planning and preparing for your travel, check the travel requirements and guidelines for your destination on our interactive map and on the country's government or embassy website. For travel to Finland, you can find a detailed overview here. For domestic travel within Finland, you can find useful information here.
Corona testing
Some countries require a negative corona test result before you can board the aircraft. We want to ensure you easy and affordable access to the testing services. Check for more here.
Update your contact details
We’ll contact you personally via SMS and/or email if there are any changes to your flight. Please go to Manage booking and check that we have your up-to-date contact information.
Check in online and pre-check corona certificates
We recommend you check in online or through Finnair app to save time and to avoid queues at the airport. If corona certificate pre-checks are available for your destination, it is possible to get your certificates checked in advance with our digital tool during online or mobile check-in. The service is currently available when you travel from Finland or Sweden to selected destinations. Read more about how to use the pre-check tool and frequently asked questions.
If you checked in in advance and already received your boarding pass, you can go directly to the bag drop or to your boarding gate via security. Please remember to print your bag tag at the check-in kiosk before dropping your baggage at the self-service counter. Depending on your destination’s travel requirements, we may still check your coronavirus related documents at your boarding gate.
If you don’t see your boarding pass options after checking in online or mobile and the corona certificates pre-check is not available for your destination, please show your corona certificates at the airport check-in to receive your boarding pass. Please reserve enough time for this.
Pack light
Packing light is a good idea, as baggage handling increases the time you spend and the contacts you have at the airport.
Changed carry-on baggage allowance
Please note that we have temporarily changed our carry-on baggage policy to smoothen the boarding. In Business Class, you can bring two pieces of carry-on baggage onboard and a smaller personal item. In Economy Class, all customers are allowed to bring one piece of carry-on baggage and a smaller personal item. The allowed, new dimensions for a carry-on bag are 55 x 40 x 23cm and for a personal item 40 x 30 x 15cm.
Reserve masks with you
As of 25 April, you are no longer required to wear a mask on Finnair flights, unless it is required by the authorities in your destination or origin country. You can find a list of countries requiring masks on the Travel updates page.
For flights where masks are mandatory, we ask you to bring your own masks with you. Please check the requirements for the specific mask types from the local authorities’ websites. Kids under 7 years old don’t usually need to wear a mask.
If you are travelling on a flight where masks are mandatory but have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, please fill in this online form to provide us with a medical certificate (either a free-form medical certificate or MEDIF medical information form) at the latest 72 hours before your flight.
Arrive at the airport early
We recommend you arrive at the airport latest 2 hours before your flight. For the flights to the USA, we ask you to be at the airport 3 hours before your departure. Due to the pandemic, we have extra travel document checks and other changes in our airport services. We advise you to allow extra time for these – also when travelling on a domestic flight within Finland.
The main departure area for Finnair customers is Helsinki Airport's brand-new Terminal 2. Arriving at the airport with a train, bus or taxi is easy as all the stops are nearby the Terminal 2 entrance.
Pre-order meals and shopping
For European flights, you can pre-order a tasty meal or a delicious sandwich depending on your route. See the selection here. As of 1 December, pre-order shopping is available again with a renewed selection. Read more about pre-order shopping.
Stay home if you feel unwell
Please note that anyone with symptoms of a coronavirus infection (covid-19) will be denied boarding. Check our flexible ticket change policy here.
