Use Avios on Finnair award flights

Your Avios can fly you around the world, as you can use Avios to purchase award flights, and pay for Finnair flights or flights with our partner airlines with Avios. For Finnair flights, you can book a Classic award flight using Avios only or pay for a flight by combining Avios with money.

Finnair Classic award flights

Finnair award flights are a great way to make use of your Avios. You can buy Finnair Classic award flight tickets to Finnair flights (flight numbers marked with an AY code) operated by Finnair or Norra.

The price of the award flight in Avios depends on your destination, travel class and whether you purchase a return or one-way flight. The ticket includes one checked bag (max. 23kg) in all travel classes and a seat reservation for a standard seat.

On top of the Avios, you will need to pay an additional surcharge depending on the route.

The prices in the table below are for online reservations and valid from 9 March 2024 onwards. Please note that if you purchase your Finnair Classic award flights through our customer service, there is an extra charge of 500 Avios for one-way flights and 1,000 Avios for return flights.

When your award booking includes a connecting flight, Avios will be charged separately for each flight, except for flights within zone 1 (Finland and Northern Europe*).

For example, when you book a London–Helsinki–Singapore award flight, Avios are charged separately for the London–Helsinki flight and the Helsinki–Singapore flight. But when you book a Stockholm–Helsinki–Singapore award flight, we charge Avios only for the Helsinki–Singapore flight.

Guaranteed seats for award flights

We have increased the number of Classic award seats on our flights and guarantee a minimum number of award seats on each flight. We guarantee at least 4 award seats on Finnair flights within Europe and 8 on Finnair long-haul flights between Europe and Asia, North America and Dubai*.

You can also use Business Class and Premium Economy award seats for travel class upgrades.

Award seats are available for booking through all channels 360 days prior to departure.

Round-trip award flights must depart from and return to the same city. This does not apply to one-way award flights.
The Avios cost of an award flight is for one person only.
The Avios costs in the table above apply when you make the purchase online. If you purchase your Finnair Classic award flights through our customer service, there is an extra charge of 500 Avios for one-way flights and 1,000 Avios for return flights.
Award flights are only valid for Finnair flights (restrictions apply to code-share flights).
The customer is liable to pay all passenger fees and taxes relating to award flights.
Connections for award flights are always booked for the first possible flight. No stopovers are permitted.
The outbound and round trip flights of a return award ticket may not be on the same day.
Customer can make changes with certain restrictions for the Finnair Classic award flight.
One stopover is permitted on round trip long-haul flights.
If the customer travels in multiple travel classes during an award journey, the cost of that award will be calculated based on the highest travel class.
The corresponding number of Avios will be debited from the account when an award booking is made.
Award bookings may not be exchanged for money, nor may travel class upgrades be made with Avios.
No compensation or refund will be paid for unused award tickets.
The number of seats available with award flight booking classes is limited.
It is not possible to book awards for certain times and routes.

If you cancel a Finnair Classic award booking made before 9 March 2024, we will refund the purchase to your account in Avios. You can make changes to Finnair Classic award bookings within the normal terms and conditions. The conversion rate from award points to Avios is 3:2 – 3 award points equal 2 Avios.

Example:
You have a Finnair Classic award booking for a Helsinki-Singapore flight in Economy class for summer 2024. You purchased the award in autumn 2023 with 45,000 award points and wish to cancel your award booking in April 2024 when Finnair Plus uses Avios as a loyalty currency. We will refund your account 30,002 Avios.

Combine Avios with money

You can also use your Avios to reduce the cash amount of the Finnair flight ticket's price.

Log in as a Finnair Plus member, start booking flights as usual and once you reach the payment page, select Avios as the payment method. You can freely set the combination of Avios and money that suits you.
