In case no transactions have been registered on your account during the last ten (10) years and consequently your Finnair Plus Avios have expired, your Member data will be deleted.

6.1 General Principles – The Basics

Avios can be used for: flights, travel extras, and products or services offered by Finnair Plus Partners. Current information about collecting and using Avios is available on finnair.com. Tier Points are separate from Avios and are used solely to determine your Tier status. Read more about Tier Points and Tiers and your progress through the Tiers at finnair.com.

How to Ensure You Receive Avios

To have Avios and Tier Points credited automatically to your Account, you must provide your membership number when making a reservation, add it to the booking before travel, or present your Membership Card when using Finnair Plus Partner services.

Important Rules About Collecting Avios

Avios can be collected only after membership has commenced. They are personal to the Member who travels or uses the qualifying service and have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for money.

You only collect Avios when you personally use the service, not when you pay for someone else’s travel.

Only one Member can collect Avios from each service used (for example, Avios from hotel stays can only be credited to one Member).

6.2 Transfers and Restrictions

Avios may be transferred from one Finnair Plus Account to another via the Finnair Shop online platform, but not to a Finnair Plus Junior Member’s Account. Online transfers are possible only if the sender’s Account has been active for more than 90 days.

Avios can be collected in only one loyalty programme per activity and cannot be transferred to or from another loyalty programme unless explicitly permitted.

6.3 Collecting Avios from Flights

Avios and Tier Points are credited based on flight segments actually flown and are based on the travel date stated on the ticket. They are not credited for unused, or cancelled flight segments, or for flight segments changed to an airline not participating in Finnair Plus.

If your membership number is provided at booking or check-in, Avios and Tier Points are generally credited within 1-4 weeks after the flown flight segment(s).

6.4 Finnair Flights

Avios and Tier Points are granted for all scheduled Finnair (AY) flights purchased at the official published fare, provided the Finnair carrier code (AY) appears on the ticket. Finnair reserves the right to determine which flights, fare types, and ticket classes qualify for accrual.

For Flights Booked on or After 9 March 2024

Avios are calculated from:

  • the base fare
  • the total price of eligible travel extras
  • any airline surcharge identified as “Extra fee” in the booking price breakdown

What doesn’t earn Avios:

  • taxes
  • other fees and charges
  • airport or service charges
  • purchases made on board
  • travel extras for Award flights

The number of Avios collected per euro spent depends on your Tier, as published on finnair.com. Where revenue information is not available for technical reasons, Avios and Tier Points are calculated based on the ticket type or travel class and the distance flown.

For Finnair Codeshare Flights (AY2501–AY7000)

Booked between 9 March 2024 and 2 June 2025:

  • Avios awarded based on ticket type or travel class and distance flown
  • See accrual tables on finnair.com

Booked on or after 3 June 2025:

  • Avios based on the base fare and airline surcharge
  • Travel extras do not earn Avios

Where revenue information is not available for technical reasons, Avios and Tier Points are calculated based on the ticket type or travel class and the distance flown.

For Finnair Leisure Flights (AY2001–AY2500) and Certain Scheduled Flights Sold by Third Parties

Finnair leisure flights (AY2001–2500) are flights operated by Finnair to which tour operators sell seats.
Holiday packages are pre-arranged trips organised by a third-party tour operator, but where the flight is operated by Finnair (scheduled Finnair flights AY0001–AY2000 and AY7001–AY7500). These include packages by Aurinkomatkat, Apollomatkat, Tjäreborg, STS Alppimatkat and Toiviomatkat.

Avios are awarded in accordance with separate tables available on finnair.com.

Travel extras purchased in connection with these flights do not earn Avios.

Exception: If you book a flight+hotel package from tour operator you collect Avios and tier points for the flight part of the package (not from the hotel part). Your earning is based on how much money you spend on the flight, as with other Finnair flights.

What Doesn’t Earn Avios

Avios are not awarded for:

Ticket/Service TypeEarns Avios?Notes
Award ticketsNoAlready purchased with loyalty currency
Zero fare ticketsNo
Contract/barter ticketsNo
Travel industry discount fare ticketsNo
Finnair Plus Money + Avios offersNo
Infant tickets (under 2 years, no seat)NoChild must have their own seat to collect Avios
Flights/services already rewarded through another programmeNoCannot double dip

6.5 Partner Airline Flights

You collect Avios and Tier Points when you fly with any of our oneworld Partner Airlines. The flight must be marketed and operated by any oneworld airline.

Avios are also granted for flights on other Partner Airlines if the Partner Airline’s carrier code appears on the ticket as ‘MARKETING CARRIER’ and the flight segment is operated by the partner airline.

Avios are granted based on the travel class, booking class, and distance flown in miles. You can only collect Avios from booking classes listed in the tables on Finnair.com.

Tier Points are only granted for oneworld Partner Airline flights.

6.6 Tier Points

In addition to Avios, Members earn Tier Points for Finnair and other oneworld airlines' scheduled flights. Tier Points enable you to progress through the Tiers of Finnair Plus. The accrual of Tier Points for flights is equivalent to Avios unless otherwise stated.

6.7 Validity of Avios – Important Information

KEY RULE: Avios are valid for 18 months from your last Avios activity

Avios are valid for 18 months from the date of the last eligible transaction whether collecting or using Avios. Each eligible transaction extends the validity of your entire Avios balance by 18 months. However, exceptions may apply. More details about the validity and eligible transaction are available at finnair.com.

If no qualifying transaction occurs within 18 months, all unused Avios will expire automatically. If the value of the Avios about to expire is not minor, Finnair will give the Member reasonable prior notice and an opportunity to use or extend the balance before expiry.

Where to check: The expiration date can be viewed in your Account on finnair.com or in the Finnair app. Finnair is not obliged to issue individual notifications.

Important: As a rule, transferring Avios between accounts, or between Finnair Plus and another loyalty programme where permitted, does not extend their validity. However, some exceptions may apply for certain loyalty programmes.

6.8 Cancelled or Delayed Flights

For Finnair Flights

Avios and Tier Points are granted for Finnair flight segments cancelled or delayed for technical reasons, including rerouting for such reasons, provided you have an AY-coded ticket and a confirmed seat.

If you are rerouted to a flight segment operated by another airline, we will award you Avios and Tier Points based on your original Finnair flight segment. Avios and Tier Points can only be awarded for flight segments flown and only to a Finnair Plus account. In these cases, Avios and Tier Points are not awarded automatically. You can claim missing Avios through the Claim Missing Avios form available on finnair.com.

In cases of force majeure, such as adverse weather or other events beyond Finnair’s control, Avios or Tier Points are not granted, including when rerouting occurs due to such events.

If a delayed Finnair flight causes you to miss a connection with a Partner Airline, Avios and Tier Points are not granted for the Partner Airline flight.

For Partner Airline Flights

For flights operated by airlines other than Finnair, no Avios or Tier Points are credited for cancellations or delays, whether caused by technical reasons or force majeure or other reasons beyond the control of a Partner, and rerouting in such cases does not entitle you to Avios or Tier Points.

6.9 Claiming Missing Avios

Important: Some Partners do not allow retroactive claims at all, and others may limit the number of Avios awarded for certain services. Details of such restrictions are available on finnair.com or finnairshop.com.

Exception to the Rule: Flights Before Joining

Avios and Tier Points can normally be collected only after becoming a Member, but Finnair or Partner Airline flights flown before joining may be credited retroactively if it took place no more than six (6) months before enrolment to Finnair Plus. No Tier Points are credited for such retroactive transactions.

6.10 Non-Airline Partner Services

Finnair has agreements with Non-Airline Partners listed at finnairshop.com (Partner Airlines are listed at finnair.com). The number of Avios collected and any applicable restrictions are stated on those sites. Members cannot claim Avios or Awards if a cooperation agreement with a Non-Airline Partner has ended.

Co-branded Credit Cards

Finnair Plus co-branded credit cards earn Avios, and in some cases also Tier Points, for purchases in accordance with the issuing bank’s terms and conditions, available on the bank’s website. Avios may also be collected from other Partner services as agreed. Some restrictions may apply to the retroactive granting of Avios.

7.1 General Principles

When an Award is booked, the equivalent number of Avios or Benefits is deducted from your Account.

Important Restrictions

Awards cannot be converted into cash, nor can two or more overlapping Awards be taken at the same time. Lost, stolen, expired or unused Benefits, tickets, or Award vouchers are not compensated.

Finnair reserves the right to charge you retroactively for an Award if you did not have the required number of Avios or Benefits at the time of booking; in such cases, the charge is based on the current regular price of the Award, and a service fee will be collected.

Finnair and its partners decide which types of Awards are offered at any given time and may limit their availability or choose not to grant certain Awards during specific periods.

Important: The value of Award flights or other Finnair Plus offers cannot be determined by comparing them to regularly priced flights, hotel stays, or other comparable services, as prices for such services vary by timing, location, and fare type. Availability for Award travel may also be more limited than for regular paid tickets and is subject to booking restrictions. Certain Awards may only be redeemed online.

7.2 Award flights

How to Book Award Flights

Award flights can be booked via:

  • finnair.com
  • the Finnair app
  • Finnair Customer Service

Award flights may only be redeemed using Avios. The number of Avios required for a particular Award is published on finnair.com. On top of the Avios, you will need to pay with money an additional surcharge, taxes and passenger fees depending on the route.

Booking for Others

An Award may be given to another person, provided their name is given at the time of the reservation. Members who wish to authorise another person to use their Account must submit written authorisation to Finnair Plus Customer Service.

Booking Window and Your Responsibilities

Award flights can be booked no earlier than 360 days before the intended travel date.

You are responsible for:

  • Paying airport taxes, passenger charges, service fees, and any other payments required by Finnair or applicable authorities
  • All taxes and charges, including VAT, that may arise from the use of an Award or Benefit
  • Securing any necessary visas or other official travel documents

Taxes that do not exceed EUR 50 amount are not refunded if an Award trip is cancelled after the ticket has been redeemed.

Award Availability

Award flights are available on scheduled flights operated by Finnair or Partner Airlines. Seat availability for Award tickets is limited within each booking class, and certain dates, times, and routes may be excluded from booking.

Finnair and its Partner Airlines may limit or adjust the number of Award seats at their discretion. Members have no entitlement to a seat on a specific flight solely by holding the required Avios or Benefits.

If a flight is operated jointly with another airline, Award seats are limited to the quota provided by airlines participating in Finnair Plus.

Award flight tickets can only be issued via Finnair’s designated channels and may not be redeemed for Finnair leisure or charter flights.

Award Booking Rules

A confirmed seat is required for all sectors of an Award journey.

Award bookings on scheduled flights cannot be combined with any other fare type or used for partial payment, except when expressly permitted in Section 7.3.

Round-trip rules:

  • Round-trip Awards must return to the original departure point, except where an airline permits otherwise, in which case the number of Avios required is based on the higher sector cost
  • Same-day round trips are not permitted

Stopovers:

  • Stopovers are not permitted, except that one stopover is allowed on intercontinental round-trip Award flights

Validity:

  • Award tickets for scheduled flights are valid for 12 months from the date of booking
  • The return flight must be flown within this period

All Award flight redemptions are subject to seat availability and applicable blackout periods.

7.3 Travel Class Upgrades with Avios or Upgrade Benefits

Travel class upgrades are available only on scheduled Finnair flights operated by Finnair with an AY flight code on the ticket.

Eligibility Checklist

To be eligible for an upgrade, you must have:

  • A confirmed booking in Economy Class or Premium Economy Class
  • An issued ticket at a published fare (Exception: Finnair Classic Awards can be upgraded with Benefits)
  • A Finnair-operated flight with AY code
  • Sufficient Avios or upgrade Benefits

The fare rules for the original ticket remain in effect after the upgrade. In the event of re-routing, the booking class rules for the original ticket continue to apply.

Waitlisted Upgrades

You can waitlist for a travel class upgrade with Avios or Benefits if there is no availability for confirmed upgrades for a certain flight.

Waitlisted upgrades will be confirmed 30 days to 48 hours prior to departure, if there is availability.

If the waitlisted upgrade cannot be confirmed 48 hours prior to departure at the latest, your Avios or Benefits will be automatically refunded within 24 hours (if the Benefits didn't expire during the waitlist time).

Finnair reserves the right to apply or amend restrictions on upgrades at any time. Upgrade availability is never guaranteed, even when using upgrade Benefits. Information on restrictions is available on Finnair’s web page.

7.4 Other Awards

Other Awards must be ordered online via the Finnair Shop (www.finnairshop.com) or directly from the Non-Airline Partner in question as instructed by Finnair. The validity period and any restrictions applicable to the Award are indicated in the Finnair Shop or relevant Non-Airline Partner website. Reservations for such Awards must be made directly by you with the relevant Partner, stating at the time of booking that the reservation is for a Finnair Plus Award.

You must present the Award voucher when redeeming the Award, based on the rules presented by the Non-Airline Partner. The voucher may be digital (on your mobile) or printed on paper, depending on the Partner. Check the specific Partner’s product page on finnairshop.com for exact requirements. Partners participating in Finnair Plus may limit Award availability by region, require multiple Award vouchers or a higher number of Avios for certain services, and apply their own terms and restrictions to the use of Awards.

Cancellation of Awards

Where an Award is provided by a Non-Airline Partner, the Partner’s own cancellation terms or the general terms for package tours will apply. These terms will determine what payments you must make upon cancellation and whether any amounts paid will be refunded.

Finnair does not refund Avios or money for unused Award vouchers (e.g., hotel vouchers), even if the voucher is not redeemed.

For Award flights, the cancellation terms in Section 7.2 and the airline’s own rules will apply.

8.1 Linking Accounts

Avios is a shared loyalty currency used by a number of airline loyalty programmes (each, a "Partner Loyalty Programme"). The current list of Partner Loyalty Programmes accounts that can be linked to Finnair Plus Account is available on finnair.com. To transfer Avios between Finnair Plus and a Partner Loyalty Programme, you must first link your accounts.

Please see further instructions on linking, any eligibility, security and other requirements or limitations and Q&A how to link your accounts at finnair.com and avios.com.

8.2 Transferring Avios

Transfers of Avios between Finnair Plus Account and a linked Partner Loyalty Programme account are free of charge, and you can transfer as often as you wish.

Avios are transferred at a 1:1 ratio, meaning one (1) Avios in Finnair Plus is equivalent to one (1) Avios in the Partner Loyalty Programme.

You may transfer between 1 and 999,999 Avios in a single transaction. If you are a Finnair Plus Basic Member, you may transfer up to 1,000,000 Avios in total across a 12-month period; this limit applies across all linked programmes and both directions of transfer combined, as a single shared limit rather than a separate limit per programme. There is no 12-month limit for Members of other Finnair Plus Tiers. Finnair Plus and its Partner Loyalty Programmes reserve the right to impose further limits at their discretion.

Avios are transferred almost instantly between accounts.

Important: Transferring Avios between accounts does not extend the validity period of Avios held in the Finnair Plus Account.

Data Sharing

To facilitate and confirm the transfer of Avios between your Finnair Plus Account and a Partner Loyalty Programme account, and to provide any related customer service, Finnair will share relevant Finnair Plus Account data with the Partner Loyalty Programme in accordance with the Finnair Privacy Notice.

9.1 Prohibited Conduct

Finnair takes a zero-tolerance approach to fraud, misuse, or abuse of Finnair Plus. Finnair Plus membership, Avios, Tier Points, and any associated Benefits or Awards must be earned, used, and managed in accordance with these Terms, and applicable laws. Any misuse, fraudulent or otherwise, is strictly prohibited.

Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Providing false, incomplete, or misleading information when enrolling, making bookings, or claiming Avios, Tier Points, Benefits or Awards.
  • Selling, bartering, auctioning, brokering, listing, soliciting, promoting or otherwise transferring for value (including any indirect consideration) any Avios, Tier Points, Awards, Benefits, Membership Cards, lounge invitations, vouchers, or other Finnair Plus privileges (such as give away gold cards), except as expressly permitted in Section 9.4.
  • Using another Member’s Account or permitting another person to use your Account without proper authorisation.
  • Altering, falsifying, or misusing tickets, vouchers, documents, or any other items issued in connection with Finnair Plus.
  • Engaging in behaviour intended to exploit system errors or technical malfunctions for personal gain.
