Doha – from a pearling village to a stunning futuristic metropolis

Doha, the capital of Qatar, boasts a magnificent skyline, stunning beach promenades and enticing sand dunes.

Grown out of a pearling village on the coast of the Persian Gulf this economic and cultural centre has gone through a growth spurt at a dazzling speed. From the flourishing pearl trade at the beginning of the 20th century to the establishment of its oil and natural gas industries in the 1950s, Doha’s population exploded from 14,000 inhabitants to 650,000 in the past century.

As the capital city of one of the wealthiest countries in the world, it makes for a fascinating holiday spot with its futuristic skyline, world-class museums, luxury hotels and stunning beach promenades. Should you grow tired of the urban environment, the traditional Bedouin lifestyle and desert adventures await just a short drive away from the city. Doha is set to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
