Travelling with a special diet or a food allergy | Finnair | Finnair Latvia

Special diets and food allergies

We try our best to provide everyone with an enjoyable meal onboard our flights. For that reason, you can choose a meal from a wide variety of special diet options that suit different health, dietary, religious and nutritional requirements.

Please make sure to pre-select the special meal and in case of a severe allergy, inform us before departure.

This way we can make sure that we are able to provide you with a special meal according to your needs or if you need to bring your own meal.

Ordering special meals

On our Finnair operated long-haul flights special meals are available in all travel classes (Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class). If you have special dietary requirements, you can pre-select your meal from our special diet options, and we will prepare it in advance for you to enjoy on board. Please note that the selection is wider for our Business Class customers.

On our short-haul flights (within Europe) special meals are available in Business Class. Please pre-select your special diet option at least 24 hours before your flight via Manage booking or in your Finnair Plus profile if you are a Finnair Plus member.

If you’re travelling in Economy Class on our short-haul flight, you can either purchase your meal from our onboard food and beverages menu that also includes meals suitable for different dietary needs or pre-order from the available selection of hot meals, salads and sandwiches via the Finnair app or during online check-in depending on availability.

Meal details

You can see the selection and the details of the meals by choosing one from the drop-down above. Please note that regardless of our efforts, Finnair cannot guarantee a fully allergen-free meal, cabin or travel environment on its flights.

Food allergies

If you have a severe food allergy or food intolerance, please inform us by filling in the special assistance request form at least 72 hours before your departure. Kindly note, we may ask you to fill in the medical information form (MEDIF) as a follow-up to your initial request.

Please note that if you have multiple or very severe allergies, we may not be able to offer you a suitable meal.

Travelling with a peanut allergy

In Business Class, you can choose the “Other special meal (SPML)” from our special diet options, which is suitable for most people suffering from peanut allergy as it does not contain nuts. However, we cannot unfortunately guarantee a fully allergen-free meal, cabin or travel environment on our flights. The onboard meals may contain traces of nuts and almonds. Also, other passengers might bring nuts on board in their carry-on.

Our cabin crew can request the customers seated near to you to not consume nuts during the flight. We cannot, however, announce the matter to all the customers on board.

We advise consulting a doctor before you buy tickets to discuss the possible risks and how to minimise them. If you have been prescribed an epinephrine or adrenaline auto-injector like EpiPen, make sure to take it with you in your carry-on baggage. We recommend packing the medication in a separate bag, preferably in the original packaging with the prescription and the doctor’s certificate.

It is good to know that you may bring your own food onboard as long as it’s aligned with carry-on baggage security rules. Please note that the food cannot be heated during the flight.

Allergen information

On our flights departing from Helsinki, our cabin crew can provide product information on the meals served and information on 14 different allergens that the meals may contain.

On flights that depart from our international destinations, obtaining a list of allergens is often challenging due to the local food regulations. We are doing our best to have the ability to provide better information on allergens on our flights to Helsinki as well.

If you wish to get more information regarding the allergens, please contact our customer care.
