Online and mobile check-in

Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure* and is available 24 hours a day. The service applies to all Finnair operated flights departing from Finland and from most destinations abroad, even when the journey includes a connecting flight.

You can also easily check in with the Finnair app (available for iOS and Android).

*Check-in for flights to/from the USA opens 24 hours before departure.

Please note that Finnair does not have online check-in in the following airports: Dalaman, Dubrovnik, Rimini, Salzburg and Split.

Did you know? Automated check-in

If you have included your phone number in your flight booking or Finnair profile, we will automatically check you in six hours before your flight and send your boarding pass to your mobile phone.

To use the mobile boarding pass, your phone must have a functioning internet connection. Otherwise, please pick up a printed boarding pass from the Bag Drop desk at the airport.

Check-in at the airport

Check in using the self-service kiosks at the airport. If self-service kiosks are not available, you can also go to a check-in desk – please see from the airport monitors which desks to use for your flight.

Self-service check-in kiosks are available at the following locations:

Did you know? Previous evening check-in at Helsinki Airport

At Helsinki Airport, you can check in for your flight the evening prior to departure between 6 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.

If you're travelling with your family and have everyone's tickets and travel documents at hand, one of you can check in all your baggage. On the day of departure you can then all go directly to security control when you arrive at the airport.

Did you know? Check-in for connecting flights

Finnair will check your baggage to the final destination marked in your ticket.

When baggage is not checked through for a connecting flight, it is delivered to the baggage claim area. Please collect your baggage and check it in for your connecting flight.

Did you know? Check-in for groups

Passengers travelling as a group can check in online in advance or at a check-in kiosk at the airport.

Groups can also request their travel agent to arrange them a special check-in at Helsinki Airport.

Check-in times

Be sure to check-in for your flight at least 45–75 minutes before departure, depending on your destination.

You must have your boarding pass and your baggage must be checked in before the deadline.
Make sure that you allow enough time to complete the necessary security checks at the airport, and get to your gate on time. Gate closes 15 minutes before departure.
If you’re travelling with a direct flight from Helsinki to the United States, please note that the online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes 75 minutes before departure. It is important to arrive at the airport well in advance of your departure, as you will need extra time for check-in and security controls required by the US authorities for all direct flights to the US.
Check-in times may vary if your flight is operated by a partner airline; please check the corresponding airlines for correct check-in times.

Bag drop

If you have baggage to check in, depending on the airport you can either use Self-service Bag Drop or leave your baggage at the Bag Drop desk during your flight's check-in period.

The Bag Drop opens latest 2 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes to 1 hour before departure.

Self-service bag drop

There are Self-service Bag Drops at Helsinki, Oulu, Tampere, Turku and Vaasa airports as well as at Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London Heathrow, Reykjavik, Stockholm Arlanda, Stockholm Bromma, Umea and Visby airports to make your way through the airport even faster.

How does it work?

Check in for your flight online or at one of our self-service kiosks at the airport.
Print the bag tag at a self-service kiosk and attach the tag to your bag.
Go to the Self-service Bag Drop.
Place the tagged bag on the belt.
Scan the bag tag with the hand-held scanner.
Send the bag into the baggage system.

Please note that if you have a direct flight to the United States, you must check in your baggage at the check-in or Bag Drop desks.

Bag Drop at Helsinki Airport

At Helsinki Airport, you can use the Self-service Bag Drop to check in your baggage. Our ground crew guides are happy to assist you with the self-service channels.

Self-service Bag Drops 207–211 are open all day. During the peak ours, also Bag Drops 225–229 are at your service.

If you are travelling to the United States with a direct Finnair flight and/or need special assistance, please check in your baggage with our agents at service counters 214–217.

At Helsinki Airport, you can also bring your baggage to the bag drop the evening prior to departure, between 18:00–21:30 (6 p.m.–9.30 p.m.). One member of the family can check-in your entire family’s baggage, provided that he or she is in possession of all tickets and travel documents.

Please note that if you are travelling on a flight operated by an airline other than Finnair or Norra, you will need to check in via their online service or at their self-service kiosk or check-in desk.
