Changes in Finnair flights to Asia and Russia
Due to the closure of Russian airspace, Finnair is making changes on its flights to Asian destinations and Russia.
Due to the closure of Russian airspace, we are making changes on our flights to Asian destinations and Russia. We are using a longer route to Tokyo, Shanghai, Soul, Bangkok, Delhi and Singapore to avoid Russian airspace.
We have cancelled all flights to Russia for the time being. Safety is always our first priority. We are following the situation closely and will update any new information on this page. We are very sorry for any inconvenience the changes may cause you.

Flights to Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai
The flight time to Tokyo and Seoul is approximately 12-13 hours, and the flights connect smoothly to our European network. We continue flying from Helsinki to Shanghai. The route goes around the Russian airspace from the south. The flight time is 12-14 hours, depending on the direction.
We are unfortunately unable to sell you our on-board internet connection in advance as the inflight connectivity will not be working along the Northern route. If you wish, you may still purchase internet connection onboard when we are using the Southern route. We have our normal meal service on these flights, and due to the longer travel time, we recommend you also take some snacks with you.
Flights to Bangkok, Singapore and Delhi
We continue flying from Helsinki to Bangkok, Singapore and Delhi. As we avoid using the Russian airspace, your travel time is some hours longer depending on the route and for example the weather conditions.
We have our normal meal service on these flights, and due to the longer travel time, we recommend you also take some snacks with you.
How do I know if my flight is cancelled or the schedule is changed?
We will contact you personally via SMS and/or e-mail, if there are changes to your flight. Please go to Manage booking and check that we have your current contact information, so that we can reach you if needed.
You can choose from the following options, if your flight is cancelled:
- We do our best to re-route you to your destination as soon as possible. Please note that availability of alternative flights is currently limited. Thank you for your patience. After we’ve re-routed your journey, we send you your new flight information via SMS and/or email. You also find your updated travel plan and other possible flight options via Manage booking.
- You can apply for full refund for your unused flight ticket.
- If you want to travel but we were unable to offer you an alternative flight, please contact our customer service.
Changes to bookings to Japan, South Korea, Hongkong or China:
- You can change your travel plans with normal ticket rules depending of your ticket type.
- For further changes, please contact our customer service.
- If you miss your connecting flight due to a delayed first flight, we’ll re-route you to your destination. As availability of alternative flights is limited, re-routing may take time. Thank you for your patience. We’ll send you your new flight information via SMS and/or email, and you can check it and other possible flight options also via Manage booking.
Changes to bookings to Russia:
- You can change your travel plans with normal ticket rules depending of your ticket type.
- You can cancel your travel and apply for refund via our chat service on our website until further notice.
- For further changes, please contact our customer service.
Travelling to Singapore, Thailand or India:
- You can change your travel plans with normal ticket rules depending of your ticket type.
- In case you would like to cancel your booking to Singapore, Bangkok or Delhi, refund will be according to the original ticket rules.
- If you miss your connecting flight due to a delayed first flight, we’ll re-route you to your destination. As availability of alternative flights is limited, re-routing may take time. Thank you for your patience. We’ll send you your new flight information via SMS and/or email, and you can check it and other possible flight options also via Manage booking.
Contacting our customer service
If you booked your ticket through a travel agency or a tour operator, please contact them to make changes to your reservation. If you booked your ticket through Finnair, our customer service is working hard to help you. We recommend the chat service on our website or via Finnair app.
