Jet Time will operate some Finnair flights to Berlin, Budapest and Vienna from March to June
7 February 2018
Due to changes in maintenance schedules, Finnair will use an aircraft and crew leased from a Danish company Jet Time A/S between 25 March and 7 June 2018. The aircraft will operate some flights to/from Berlin, Budapest and Vienna.

Yesterday's weather continues to affect Finnair’s traffic in the coming days
13 December 2017
The storm in Central Europe and the runway restrictions caused by heavy snowfall in Helsinki Airport on Tuesday congested Finnair operations at Helsinki Airport severely on Tuesday evening. An overtime working ban by Finnish aviation union also contributed partly to the situation. Finnair had to cancel over 60 flights, and many flights were delayed.
Disruptions expected in the coming days
During the night Finnair planned how to recover its operations as soon as possible. The recovery to normal traffic and rerouting of all customers will however take time. According to the current estimate, delays are expected in domestic and European traffic today on Wednesday and complete recovery traffic is expected on Thursday. Long haul traffic is expected to recover for most part on Thursday.
We communicate about possible cancellations and delays directly to the customers by text messages. Please check from Manage booking that we have your current contact information.
We serve customers by phone, chat and on Twitter @FinnairHelps. Please note that our customer service is very congested. In case your issue is not urgent, we kindly recommend you contact us later this week.

12 December 2017
Heavy snowfall at Helsinki is
affecting Finnair and other airlines’ operations on the evening of 12 December.

We communicate possible flight cancellations directly to customers with text messages, provided that the reservation includes a mobile number. Our customer service is unfortunately congested and we ask for customers’ patience.
We apologize for all the inconvenience this is causing to our customers, and ask for their patience and understanding in this difficult situation. FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS DUE TO IAU AIRPORT STRIKE ON FRIDAY MARCH 17
15 March 2017
Strike and support actions are planned for Friday, March 17 from 3 pm – 7 pm EET at Helsinki Airport, related to the dispute between the Finnish Aviation Union and the service sector employer union Palta about labour agreements in Airpro Oy. The strike will considerably impact Finnair’s flights on Friday, as during the strike, critical ground services are not available or are very limited. Finnair is not a party to the labour dispute.
Flight cancellations and other changes are updated on this page. We also communicate directly with text messages and email to customers whose flights are impacted. We ask you to kindly check from Manage booking that we have your current contact information, so that the messages can reach you.
Customers, who have a reservation for a Finnair flight on Friday March 17 or to one of the other possible strike days (22 March, 23 March and 24 March), can change their travel date until April 9 to avoid travelling on the dates when the strike can affect Finnair’s flights.
If your flight IS on the list of cancelled flights:
1) Check from Manage booking on finnair.com if we have already found an alternative flight for you. Check also that your contact details are up to date.
2) If you accept the new routing, please check-in and arrive at the airport according to the new booking.
3) If the alternative flight doesn’t suit your plans, please contact Finnair customer service.
4) If an alternative flight isn’t yet shown in Manage booking, please be patient – finding alternative flights for thousands of customers will take some time.

6) If we cannot find an alternative flight for you, you can change the travel date or apply for refund to the ticket
If you have bought your ticket directly from Finnair, you can apply for a refund of a cancelled flight and bought ancillary services here.
If your flight is on March 17 and your flight IS NOT on the list of cancelled flights:
1) Check that your contact details are up to date in ” Manage booking” on finnair.com, so that you will receive possible messages about delays or an earlier departure time.
2) Reserve enough time as Helsinki Airport is most likely congested.
3) Check-in online prior to arriving at the airport.
4) If possible, travel with hand luggage only, as baggage handling will be disturbed. Please follow the normal rules regarding hand luggage size and weight.

Strikes announced for Tuesday March 14 have been cancelled
12 March 2017
Finnair has received information that the strikes that the Finnish Aviation Union IAU strike and support strikes had planned for Tuesday March 14 have been cancelled, and Finnair thus aims to operate its traffic normally on Tuesday.
Cancellations of a few individual domestic flights are unfortunately still possible, as we had to start preparations for the announced strike already during the weekend. We aim to get all flights back into the program, but if an individual flight has to be cancelled, we will inform affected customers with text messages during Monday, and offer suitable rerouting options.
Flight cancellations and delays due to IAU strike on Friday March 10
9 March 2017
Strike and support actions are planned for Friday, March 10 from 3 pm – 7 pm EET at Helsinki Airport, related to the dispute between the Finnish Aviation Union and the service sector employer union Palta about labour agreements in Airpro Oy.
Customers, who have a reservation for a Finnair flight on Friday March 10 or to one of the other possible strike days (14 March and 17 March), can change their travel date until April 2 to avoid travelling on the dates when the strike can affect Finnair’s flights.
If your flight is cancelled
If you have bought your ticket directly from Finnair, you can apply for a refund of a cancelled flight and bought ancillary services here.

Small vehicles powered by lithium batteries forbidden
15 December 2015
Finnair and many other airlines are restricting the carriage of vehicles powered by lithium batteries. Starting 16 December 2015, customers on Finnair flights are due to security reasons not allowed to transport electrically powered vehicles running on lithium ion batteries (e.g. Hoverboard, mini - Segway, AirWheel, Solowheel) as checked baggage or carry-on baggage. The large lithium batteries used in these vehicles are associated with potential fire risks.
If the customer brings an electrically powered vehicle to the airport, it is his/her responsibility to arrange disposal of the item prior to boarding. Due to the fire risk Finnair cannot store it.
The above restrictions also apply to interline transit passengers with connection to Finnair flights.

ATR from DOT may be used on Finnair's domestic and European routes for a limited time period
Finnair has leased an ATR aircraft and crew from DOT, a subsidiary of Danish Air Transport , for a limited time period starting of Oct 10, to cover for the shortage of pilots at Norra, which operates a part of Finnair's traffic in Finland and in Europe. The aircraft and crew will be used for example in situations where a flight otherwise would have to be cancelled due to crew sick leave or other reason, and it may be used on Finnair's domestic and European routes.
Finnair has had to cancel several domestic flights due to a pilot shortage at Norra, which operates a part of Finnair's traffic. Norra is undergoing collective labour agreement negotiations with the pilots' union. In September, the pilots' union prohibited overtime work, coming to work from a day off and changes in work schedules for its members. The situation has led into several domestic flight cancellations with a short notice, when Norra has not been for example able to replace a sick pilot.
Norra continues to seek an agreement with the pilots' union on the new collective labour agreement. Finnair does its utmost to be able to fly all flights as planned, and to avoid cancellations.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause to our customers.
