Old Town – encircled by a 3.4-kilometre-long stone wall dating back to the 13th century, Visby’s Old Town is a living time capsule. Its cobblestone streets, medieval ruins and charming houses invite you to wander through centuries of history.

Medieval Week – to celebrate the city’s heritage, Medieval Week is held every August, complete with markets, jousting, street theatre, crafting courses and more.

Botanical Garden – home to innumerable roses, exotic trees and plants, this place will leave you in awe of its fairytale-like beauty.

Visby Cathedral – this splendid example of Gothic and Romanesque architecture dates to the late 12th and early 13th centuries, making it the oldest church in Visby still in use. Elegant towers, richly-coloured stained glass windows, grand vaulted ceilings – Visby Cathedral stands out with its timeless splendour.

Gotland Museum – step into Gotland’s rich past and discover Viking treasures, medieval artifacts and much more. The museum’s highlight is the Spillings Hoard, the largest Viking silver treasure ever found in the world – definitely a must-see!

Ruins of St. Karin’s Church – discover the spirit of medieval Gotland on your visit to the ruins of this magnificent church from the 13th century. Its towering arches and weathered stone walls create a hauntingly beautiful scene, as if you’ve stepped into a spellbinding painting.

Almedalen Park – once Visby’s medieval harbour, this place is now a perfect spot for relaxing in the park's peaceful greenery. It’s also well known as the setting for Almedalen Week, Sweden’s famous annual political event.

Sights and activities near Visby

Lummelunda Cave – a fascinating natural wonder with over 4 kilometres of explored passages underground, located about 20 minutes by bus or car from Visby. You can join a guided tour to explore the cave’s mysterious rock formations.

Kneippbyn Resort – only around 10 minutes from Visby by car or 20 minutes by seasonal shuttle bus lies this fascinating seaside resort, home to the original Villa Villekulla from the Pippi Longstocking movies. You’ll also find an amusement park and a water park there, with plenty of fun activities – perfect for a family holiday!

Tofta Beach – one of the most popular beaches in Gotland. It’s loved by many for its golden sand and clear waters, making it an ideal place to enjoy the relaxed summer atmosphere. You can get there in approximately 25 minutes by car or 35 minutes by bus and a short walk.

Stora Karlsö – this small island is a haven for nature lovers. Take the chance to admire dramatic cliffs, discover beautiful wildflowers or observe large colonies of nesting seabirds such as guillemots and razorbills. To get there, you can go to Klintehamn and from there take a ferry to Stora Karlsö.
