Copenhagen for interior design lovers

Louis Poulsen, Normann Copenhagen, Ferm Living, HAY…. Denmark is widely known for its sleek design, and Copenhagen is a dream destination for interior design enthusiasts. Besides checking out the large Danish design houses, you can make more affordable finds in small boutiques by local artisans and lesser-known designers.

Here are some destinations that you should definitely add to your Copenhagen bucket list if you love interior design shopping!

Illums Bolighus

Located on the famous shopping street Strøgeti, Illums Bolighus is a flagship for Danish and Scandinavian design. Besides the Danish classics, you can find most of the other large Nordic design brands in the store. The spacious store offers a lot of eye candy and temptations for design fans. The street-level features smaller furnishings that you can fit in your suitcase, while the upper levels showcase furniture and light fittings. If you enjoy cooking, definitely check out the basement that features the latest in homeware, from kitchen electricals to knives and cookbooks.

Paustian store, Copenhagen

Paustian

A block away from Illums Bolighus, the Paustian Concept Store oozes old-world charm. Besides furniture and lighting by Danish and other Nordic designers, the store features homeware, decoration, and textiles. For stylish dog-owners, there’s a dedicated section that features hand-made leashes, collars, toys, and doggy beds. Paustian also has another store in the Nordhavn area.

Jægersborggade boutique street

One of the nicest streets in hip and trendy Nørrebro is Jægersborggade. The picturesque residential street is home to art galleries, vintage shops, ceramics and jewellery designers, as well as several wine bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Check out, for example, the cute Craft Sisters store, that specializes in clothes, mirrors, Moroccan throws, tableware and rugs. In the spring, Jægersborggade hosts a popular flea market.

Other design destinations

Visit Copenhagen has a through list of other design spots worth a visit in Copenhagen. The HAY flagship store and GUBI store are also on the list of popular destinations for design fans. The best way to get around is, of course, a bicycle. Copenhagen’s Donkey Republic city bikes are super easy to use with a mobile app, and you can find them everywhere.
