What's the difference between a refund and compensation?

If you didn't use your flight ticket or travel extra, request a refund. If you experienced a problem during your trip, claim compensation.

A refund means getting your money back for an unused flight ticket or travel extra. For example, you may be entitled to a refund if you cancel a booking, decide not to travel after Finnair cancels your flight, or don't receive a meal you paid for.

Compensation is a payment you may be able to claim for issues related to your trip, such as a flight disruption or delayed baggage.
