Culinary adventures above the clouds – Our new onboard snacks and meals you'll love

On 21 May, our in-flight service will change to the summer season's food and beverage menu on both our European and long-haul flights. The new menus are available on flights departing from Helsinki and returning to Helsinki until 21 October 2025. At the same time, we will also update our onboard sales and pre-order selection.

Summer menu inspired by fresh greenery

The menus on Finnair flights change two to three times a year, and the complimentary meals served on the flights vary, for example, depending on the departure airport. The menus will be renewed in Business Class on European flights and on our long-haul flights on 21 May, bringing with it summery freshness and colours. The summer menu is available until 21 October.

"Green vegetables and herbs come in one form or another in most meals in different travel classes. There is chervil, apple jelly, nettle pesto, salsa verde, asparagus and pea shoots in starters, and broccoli and Brussels sprouts in hot meals. Cucumber is also available in various forms, and it has been chosen as the Vegetable of the Year in Finland," says Development Chef Sami Oksava from Finnair Kitchen.

Nordic freshness and influences from our destinations on the long-haul Business Class menu

The Business Class menu on our long-haul flights combines simple, fresh Nordic flavours with local flavours from our destinations. Depending on the flight, the Business Class summer menu of our long-haul flights departing from Helsinki includes roast veal with pickled chanterelles, green herb sauce, lemon gel, grilled asparagus, pickled mustard seeds and cucumber, as well as chervil or charred whitefish, smoked vendace mousse and cold-smoked salmon with dill mayonnaise, horseradish sauce, pickled red onion and chervil. In addition, feta cheese with nettle pesto, strawberries, apple gel, pickled cherry tomatoes and cucumber, sea beans and chervil are served on all flights.

The main course is slow-cooked beef entrecôte, potato gratin with Västerbotten cheese, onion purée, broccolini, padron pepper, roasted corn, and creamy tarragon mustard sauce. As a fish option, roasted white fish with grilled lemon, fennel cabbage stew, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cherry tomatoes with vanilla Beurre Blanc. In addition, there is always a third, route-specific option available.

On long-haul flights, the meal is topped off with either a cheerful green, marzipan-covered princess cake or a blueberry pie with berries and vanilla sauce. In addition, there is a selection of cheeses with rhubarb compote.

You can look at the Business Class menus for long-haul flights before your trip on our website. In Manage booking, you can conveniently choose the main course in advance, up to 24 hours before your flight.

In Business Class on long-haul flights, in addition to meals, we offer small movie treats and snacks throughout the flight.

The wine selection has also been updated

The wine selection for long-haul flights in Business Class was updated earlier in the spring. As usual, the selection includes three different white wines, three different red wines, and two dessert wines. Last summer's favourite, the summery fresh rosé wine L'Ostal Rosé, has also returned to our flights.

This time, our selection of white wines includes the German, fresh citrus and lightly mineral Villa Franz, the Spanish, lively fruity and mineral Antonio Gonzales, and the Italian Claudio Quarta Fiano di Avellino, whose taste is characterised by floral and fruity aromas.

The selection of red wines includes the French, lightly summery Domaine Martinolles, the French Château de Pitray with a hint of ripe fruit, and the Italian Domini Veneti Pruviniano Ripasso Superiore, which serves aromas of dried fruit and nuttiness.

The selection of dessert wines includes two options: the French, intensely aromatic Domaine de La Préceptorie —Le Vin Doux Rêveur and the Finnish Ainoa Vaapukka, a sweet dessert wine made from raspberries that goes well with many desserts.

This year, we are also celebrating the venerable 200th anniversary of our long-term partner Joseph Perrier. Their classic champagne Cuvée Royale was served on our flights already in 1998. This classic drink combines three grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, offering an appley, ripe citrus and light creamy taste experience. What could be a more enjoyable way to start your flight in our long-haul Business Class than to raise a toast with this lively and fruity classic champagne!

In Premium Economy and Economy Class options depend on the destination

The menus of our long-haul Premium Economy Class will also be renewed. In this travel class, you can also choose the main meal using Manage booking. Choosing the main course in advance is always worthwhile; This will ensure that you get the main course you like, even if it is also the favourite of other passengers on the flight. There are always two main course options available, varying depending on the destination. On the menu for the summer season, options include, for example, tender chicken fillet and asparagus risotto with tomato vinaigrette, or minced meat patty in a creamy mushroom sauce, romano beans and swede-potato purée.

In Premium Economy Class, a second, lighter meal or snack is also served during the flight. In addition to meals, you can enjoy a complimentary selection of hot and cold refreshments and alcoholic beverages, excluding sparkling wine, throughout the flight.

In Economy Class on long-haul flights, we serve a tasty hot meal with non-alcoholic beverages and one complimentary glass of wine or mild alcoholic beverage (excluding sparkling wine). The main course varies depending on the destination. You can choose from two main course options on flights to Delhi, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Nagoya, Shanghai, Seoul, and Singapore. On other flights, there is one menu.

On our longer flights, we will also serve you a light meal or snack with non-alcoholic beverages just before landing. You can easily buy more drinks and snacks from the in-flight selection through the entertainment system and pay for the purchases safely with your phone. The cabin crew will deliver the purchased items to your seat.

Pre-select your main course in Business Class on European flights

Did you know that Business Class passengers on European flights can also choose the meal's main course on day and evening flights in advance? You can pre-select from four main course options: a meat and vegetable option and two different chicken options. One menu is available on the flight, so it is advisable to book in advance.

If you have a special diet, you can choose a special meal for any long-haul flight or Business Class for European flights up to 24 hours before your flight departure in Manage booking.

Travel snacks from the onboard sales selection or as a pre-order

As we move on to the summer menu, we have also updated our onboard sales selection with new products requested by our customers. Several heated food options, such as vegan lasagna and green chicken curry, are now available on selected longer flights to Europe. On these longer flights, oven-warm buns are also a novelty in the onboard sales selection.

New beverage options have also been added to our in-flight sales selection, such as the Maku Brewing Chinook IPA beer and our customers' summertime favourite rosé wine. The white and red wines in our sales selection have also been renewed. For the summer season, the beverage selection has also been expanded to include the pineapple long drink, which is the favourite drink of at least our domestic Finnish customers. With child passengers in mind, the sales selection includes Moomin Mehuli, a raspberry fruit drink.

On all our flights – except for our short flight to Tallinn – we offer our customers complimentary blueberry juice or water. Coffee, tea and other beverages, as well as snacks, can be purchased during the flight service. At the request of our customers, decaffeinated coffee is now also available.

As usual, we offer a one-euro discount on snack products when you buy a drink on the flight.

In addition to snacks and drinks, our onboard sales selection also includes, for example, Finnair playing cards and Fazer's Blue chocolate bar in a size of 250 grams and in a beautiful Moomin-themed wrapper in honour of the Moomins celebrating their 80th anniversary. The entire onboard sales selection is available on our website

Pre-order_2024_05_pre order group_02

Travelling to Europe in Economy Class? Depending on the route, you can pre-order a sandwich combo or a tasty light or hot meal for your flight. When you pre-order your meal, you don't have to worry about dining just before the flight or looking for a restaurant when you arrive at your destination. Meals for customers who have pre-ordered in advance will be served first on the flight.

In the sandwich combo, a fresh sandwich comes with a smoothie, a chocolate bar and a cup of coffee or tea. The Nordic combo in the pre-order selection includes tasty cold-smoked salmon rye bread, the Premium combo cold-smoked reindeer-brie cheese bread and the Vegetable combo mozzarella-paprika-focaccia. A sandwich combo for children consists of a turkey and cheese oat bun, juice, Moomin candies, an activity book and pens.

From the pre-order selection, you can also buy a light, cold meal, such as chicken Caesar salad or beef bulgogi bowl salad. In addition, there is a pepperoni mozzarella pizza, a Margherita vegetarian pizza and a chicken teriyaki panini available. On our website, you can see all the products that can be pre-ordered for the flight.

Meals are planned taking into account the specifics of the flight

When planning meals, we consider route destinations, travel lengths, and flight schedules. On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Nagoya, due to the late departure time of flights, we first offer a light meal in Business Class and a delicious brunch before the flight lands. Business Class brunch consists of breakfast-style starters, a dessert selection, and a main course from which you can choose from three options. We offer brunch-style, lighter meals on these routes before landing, also in Premium Economy and Economy Classes.

Our cabin crew will be happy to tell you more about the in-flight service, which you can also find out about on our Nordic Kitchen page. In our travel updates, you can read more about the service on Iberia-operated flights to Madrid and Barcelona.
