Seat selection

Add some peace of mind to your flight by purchasing a seat in advance when booking your flight or later via Manage booking. You can also purchase your seat by contacting our customer service or your travel agent.

Long-haul flights

Below you can find seat options for long-haul and selected short-haul flights operated by A350 and A330 aircraft.

Economy Comfort seat

A seat in the front section of Economy Class with at least 7.5 cm (3”) of extra legroom. Be amongst the first to board with Priority boarding.

Two or three Economy Comfort seats on each long-haul aircraft are also equipped with a baby bassinet.

Extra legroom seat

A seat with maximum possible legroom on board. Be amongst the first to board with Priority boarding.

Extra Legroom Seats are also exit row seats with eligibility requirements: passenger needs to be at least 12 years old, speak and understand English or Finnish and is able to open the exit door and assist the crew if needed.

Front row seat

Located in the first row of the rear cabin section, these Economy Class seats offer extra legroom. 

One or two Front Row Seats on each aircraft are also equipped with a baby bassinet.

Preferred seat

A seat in the popular section within the first nine rows of Economy Class. Exit amongst the first passengers.

Standard seat

A standard seat is a good choice to assure sitting next to your travel companions, either in the aisle, next to the window or in the middle of the row.

Below you can find seat options for flights within Finland, Europe and the Middle East.

Extra legroom seat

A seat with maximum possible legroom on board. Be amongst the first to board with Priority boarding. 

Extra Legroom Seats are also exit row seats with eligibility requirements: passenger needs to be at least 12 years old, speak and understand English or Finnish and is able to open the exit door and assist the crew if needed.

Front Row seat

A seat located in the first row of the aircraft offering extra legroom and personal space.

On selected routes, one of Front Row Seats is also equipped with a baby bassinet.

Preferred seat

An Economy Class seat in the popular section with 5 cm (2”) to 7.5 cm (3”) extra legroom. Exit amongst the first passengers.

Standard seat

A standard seat is a good choice to assure sitting next to your travel companions, either in the aisle, next to the window or in the middle of the row.

Note that most Extra Legroom Seats and a few standard seats are also exit row seats and have added responsibilities, including assisting fellow passengers in the event of an emergency. To select an exit row seat, you must be at least 12 years old, speak and understand English or Finnish and be able to open the exit door and assist the crew if needed. It is not possible to use an extension belt on exit row seats.

Special cases

You can select a seat free of charge in the following cases:

  • You’re travelling with a Flex ticket.
  • You’re travelling with a Finnair Plus award ticket (standard seats only).
  • You’re a Finnair Plus Platinum or Platinum Lumo member.
  • You’re a Finnair Plus Gold member (excluding Economy Comfort seats).
  • You’re a oneworld Emerald member (reservations through Finnair Customer service).
  • You’re a oneworld Sapphire member (excluding Economy Comfort seats. Reservations through Finnair Customer service).
  • You’re travelling to or from Japan on a Finnair-operated flight and have purchased a ticket in class K, M, P, T or G (standard seats only).

You will be assigned a seat automatically when check-in opens. You can change the seat if there is availability on the flight.

You can still purchase an Economy Comfort seat, a seat with extra legroom or a front row seat at check-in on intercontinental flights or an Economy Comfort seat on flights within Europe and the Middle East.

Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure and 24 hours before departure for flights to/from the United States.

If you are travelling with children and you decide not to reserve seats in advance, the system will make sure each child (under 12) is seated with at least one adult from your group.

You can reserve a seat in advance for a flight operated and marketed by Finnair. If you are travelling on a flight operated by Finnair but your ticket has been issued by another airline, please choose your seat at check-in. If you are travelling on a flight operated by Finnair’s partner airline, the rules of this airline apply (including baggage policies, purchasing travel extras and special service requests).

Terms and conditions

A requested seat cannot be guaranteed, as it may need to be changed for operational, safety or security reasons.

The seat reservation fee will not be refunded if you cancel the flight, are involuntarily upgraded, or in case you are not suitable to sit in the seat type selected.

The seat reservation fee will be refunded if you cannot be seated in the reserved seat type or in a suitable alternative seat due to Finnair.

The seat reservation fee will be automatically refunded if you upgrade your travel class online, otherwise please fill out the Refund Form.

Changes of dates are possible according to the terms and conditions of your ticket. If you have reserved a paid seat and you change your flight times in accordance with your fare rules, you need to reserve your paid seat again for the new flight. You may then apply for a refund of the costs of the seat reservation on the original flight.
