What do I do if I fall ill before my flight?
It depends on the type of illness you have. If you’ve fallen ill with an infectious disease, such as the common cold or a stomach virus, we unfortunately can’t allow you on board.
If your illness isn’t contagious but is physically straining you, you should consult your doctor to see whether you’re fit to fly. Flying is demanding on the body, so you need to be in good physical condition to travel safely.
If you can't make it to your flight, here are your options:
- If you have a Classic or Flex ticket booked through Finnair.com or the Finnair app, you can change your travel dates per ticket rules.
- If you've purchased Finnair Cancellation Cover and can't travel due to sickness, cancel your booking in Manage booking and apply for a refund on the Finnair Cancellation Cover claim page.
- In other cases, cancel your flight through Manage booking before the scheduled departure time.
- If your ticket type is refundable, you'll be refunded automatically.
- If your ticket type isn't refundable, contact your insurance company for reimbursement. If needed, you can get a certificate for your insurance company from us.
