Can I bring devices powered by batteries to the airplane?

Yes, you can carry your portable electronic devices that contain lithium batteries in your checked or carry-on baggage. However, you must note that there are some restrictions:

  • Devices with lithium metal batteries containing up to 2 grams of lithium and lithium ion batteries up to 100 watt-hours (for example, mobile phones and laptops) may be transported as checked and carry-on baggage. We recommend carrying them in your carry-on for safety reasons.
  • Devices with lithium ion batteries over 100 but under 160 watt-hours (for example, video cameras) may be carried only with prior approval from Finnair.
  • Devices with lithium metal batteries containing over 2 grams of lithium and lithium ion batteries over 160 watt-hours (for example, large power banks and car batteries) are forbidden as both checked and carry-on baggage.
