Culinary adventures above the clouds – taste the Finnish autumn and winter

From 21 October, our onboard menus bring the flavours of the Finnish season to the skies. Available on European and long-haul flights until 16 March 2027, both from and to Helsinki, the new seasonal menus give beetroot, chanterelles and cranberries the main role. Our Buy Onboard and pre-order selections have also been refreshed, giving you more choice throughout your journey. The menus on our flights change two to three times a year, and the complimentary meals served vary depending on the route, departure airport and time of departure.

Beetroot, chanterelles and cranberries – the taste of the Finnish autumn and winter in long-haul Business Class

Our autumn and winter menu draws inspiration from ingredients deeply rooted in Finnish food culture. Beetroot, chanterelles and cranberries feature throughout the season, bringing flavours from Finnish autumn fields and forests.

“Beetroot adds earthiness and warmth to dishes such as beetroot carpaccio with torched goat cheese. Chanterelles highlight Finland's rich foraging traditions, appearing in dishes such as torched salmon tartare with pickled chanterelles, while cranberries bring freshness and balance to seasonal favourites like slow-cooked beef cheek with cranberry sauce,” says Development Chef Sami Oksava from Finnair Kitchen.

Together, these ingredients reflect the changing season — from the abundance of autumn harvests to the comforting flavours of winter. The result is a menu that feels grounded, seasonal and distinctly Finnish.

Business Class

Long haul Business Class: Combining Finnish ingredients with destination vibes

In long-haul Business Class, the autumn-winter menu continues Finnair’s thoughtfully designed dining experience, combining Finnish ingredients with destination-inspired touches.

On our long-haul flights departing from Helsinki, the starter depends on your route and can be torched salmon tartare with Jerusalem artichoke crème and pickled chanterelles, or roasted beef with pickled turnip, juniper berry mayonnaise, crispy potatoes and dried cranberries. In addition, beetroot carpaccio with lemon gelée, torched goat cheese and apple is served on every flight.

For the main course, when departing from Helsinki, you can choose from three options:

  • Slow-cooked beef cheek with pumpkin risotto, pickled apple, caramelised onion, broccolini and port wine cranberry sauce
  • Cranberry and miso marinated salmon with root vegetable purée, semi-dried tomatoes, pan-fried savoy cabbage and morel sauce
  • A route-specific option, such as Japanese miso pork with steamed rice, mashed potatoes and vegetables on flights from Helsinki to Japan.

The long-haul Business Class meal is topped off with either chocolate fondant with blackcurrant sauce or cranberry and lingonberry crumble cake with vanilla crème. Also, a selection of cheese with fig compote is served for cheese fans.

Due to the late departure time of the flights, on our flights to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore, as well as on one of the flights to Bangkok, we offer a lighter meal first and a brunch-style, more filling main meal a few hours before landing. Brunch consists of a breakfast-style selection of starters and desserts, as well as a main course that you can choose from three different options.

You can familiarise yourself with the long-haul Business Class menus before your trip on our website, and in Manage booking you can choose your main course in advance from up to four options up to 24 hours before departure. A cold reindeer bowl salad is available only through pre-selection.

In Business Class on long-haul flights, in addition to meals, we offer small movie treats and snacks throughout the flight.

The wine selection updated for the winter season

The wine selection for long-haul flights in Business Class was updated in early October to match the autumn-winter menu. As usual, the selection includes three different white wines, three different red wines and two dessert wines.

This winter season, our selection of white wines includes the French, fresh, floral, and peachy Côtes du Rhône Réserve made from Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Viognier grapes, the French Château Puyanché offering notes of peach, citrus and spicy and made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes, and the German Hofmann Riesling, a crisp, harmonious, and dry Riesling.

The selection of red wines includes the Spanish Pago la Pavina, which is an intense, structured, and complex red wine with rich black fruit and oak spice made from Tempranillo, Cabernet and Sauvignon grapes, the French Château Paveil de Luze offering velvety tannins and sweet, plummy fruit made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, and the Austrian Bründlmayer Zweigelt, a fresh, elegant, and juicy red wine made from Zweigelt grapes and featuring vibrant notes of sour cherries, wild berries, and a touch of peppery spice.

The selection of dessert wines includes two options: the Portuguese Kopke Colheita Port offering smoky notes wrapped in aromas of spices and dried fruits, and the Finnish Ainoa Vaapukka, which is an award-winning, sweet and intensely fruity dessert wine made from raspberries.

Premium Economy

The menus of our long-haul Premium Economy Class are also updated for the autumn-winter season, featuring familiar favourites and seasonal touches. There are always two main course options available, depending on the destination.

On the menu for the season, options include, for example, beef in Stroganoff sauce with pearl onions and pickled cucumber, mashed potatoes and cabbage, or linguine pasta and prawns in Choron sauce with leek and green peas.

In the Premium Economy travel class, you can also choose the main meal using Manage booking. Choosing the main course in advance is always worthwhile for extra peace of mind. This will ensure that you get the main course you like, even if it is also the favourite of other passengers on the flight.

In Premium Economy Class, a second, lighter meal is also served during the flight, such as herb omelette, potato-vegetable mix and tomato sauce with vegetable wrap. In addition to meals, you can enjoy a complimentary selection of hot and cold refreshments and alcoholic beverages, excluding sparkling wine, throughout the flight.

Economy Class

In Economy Class on long-haul flights, you can enjoy a hot meal with non-alcoholic beverages and one complimentary glass of wine or mild alcoholic beverage (excluding sparkling wine). The main course varies depending on the destination and can include, for example, sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice and Asian vegetables.

On our longer flights, depending on the route, we will also serve you a second, lighter meal — such as tortiglione pasta in creamy cacio e pepe sauce with grilled bell pepper — or a snack with non-alcoholic beverages before landing. You can easily buy more drinks and snacks from the in-flight selection through the entertainment system and pay for the purchases safely with your phone. The cabin crew will deliver the purchased items to your seat.

European flights

Business Class

Pre-select your main course in Business Class on European flights

The flavours of autumn and winter are also on the menu in Business Class on European flights: beetroot and chanterelles in the starters, and lingonberry in the dessert mousse.

When travelling in Business Class on European flights, you can also choose the main course of the meal served on day and evening flights in advance from as many as five different options. Chicken, beef, vegetarian, and seafood dishes are served hot, while chicken and quinoa salad is served cold. There is one menu available on the flight, so it is advisable to book in advance.

Travel snacks from the onboard sales selection or as a pre-order

We have also updated our in-flight sales selection with new products. The beverage selection always includes a wide range of cold and hot drinks: soft drinks, smoothies, energy drinks, beers and long drinks, wines, spirits, and coffee, tea and hot chocolate. As a new product, the coffee served on our flights is now a New York blend from the Finnish company Paulig.

"For us at Finnair, Finnishness is an essential part of the customer experience, and Paulig is a natural partner to complement our in-flight selection. We serve approximately 12 million passengers annually, and it's great to have Finnish coffee culture as part of our customers' journeys," says Lauri Ahonen, Concept & Category Manager, Inflight Offering, at Finnair Kitchen.

The beverage selection now also include the Finnish Kyrö Malt Oloroso whisky and Maku Brewing's Sauna Pale Ale as new products. The snack selection has also been updated with new products, including a salami snack, cashew nuts, a cheese plate and two different ambient meals.

On European flights (flights operated with an Airbus aircraft type), you can also buy drinks and snacks from the onboard sales selection conveniently with your own phone on the Nordic Sky portal. The cabin crew will deliver the purchased items to your seat.

On all our flights – except for our short flight to Tallinn – we offer you our signature blueberry juice or water free of charge. Coffee, tea and other beverages, as well as snacks, can be purchased during the flight service.

As usual, we offer a one-euro discount on snack products when you buy a drink on the flight.

In addition to snacks and drinks, our onboard sales selection also includes Fazer's Blue chocolate bar, available in a 250-gram size. The entire onboard sales selection is available on our website.

Depending on the route, you can pre-order a sandwich combo or a tasty light or hot meal for your flight. When you pre-order your meal, you don't have to worry about dining just before the flight or looking for a restaurant when you arrive at your destination. Meals for customers who have pre-ordered in advance will be served first on the flight.

Our fresh pre-order meals selection includes:

  • Breakfast Choice: ham and cheese croissant, Valio A+ natural yoghurt with berry granola, orange juice and a cup of coffee or tea.

Select a special meal suitable for your diet online

If you have a special diet, you can choose a special meal for any long-haul flight or Business Class for European flights up to 24 hours before your flight departure in Manage booking on the Finnair.com website.

Meals are planned taking into account the specifics of the flight

When planning meals, we consider route destinations, travel lengths, and flight schedules. On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore, and on one of our Bangkok flights, we first serve a light meal in Business Class and Premium Economy Class due to the late departure time, and the main service follows as a brunch a couple of hours before landing.

Our cabin crew will be happy to tell you more about the in-flight service, which you can also find out about on our onboard meals and beverages page. In our travel updates, you can read more about the service on Iberia-operated flights to Madrid and Barcelona.

A tasty journey begins at the lounge

Our lounge menus at Helsinki Airport are changing for autumn and winter. Every lounge offers a seasonal soup and a hot dish that change weekly, a varied selection of salads, and an assortment of breads with spreads. In our non-Schengen lounge, our bartender will prepare your drinks for you, while in the Schengen lounge you can help yourself to drinks from the buffet.

Our lounge menus are designed to be healthy and nourishing, with an emphasis on Finnish ingredients and the tastiest produce of the season.

The selection varies slightly between our Schengen and non-Schengen lounges. The Schengen lounge menu is designed especially with shorter business trips in mind, while our non-Schengen lounge offers a slightly wider selection.

In the Platinum Wing in the non-Schengen area, we also always serve à la carte dishes. In addition, you can enjoy a varied selection of tapas, hot dishes and cheeses, among other things.
