Up to 30 days before departure (everyone)

You can't use a Finnair gift card to pay for a travel class upgrade.

What's included with your upgrade

Upgrade to Business Class

The upgrade includes:

  • a seat in Business Class with more space and comfort, including seat reservation
  • priority check-in, security, and boarding (when bought online)
  • lounge access (when bought online)
  • Business Class meals and drinks
  • internet access (when bought online)

Upgrade to Premium Economy

The upgrade includes:

  • a seat in Premium Economy with extra legroom and a better recline
  • a larger entertainment screen
  • Premium Economy meals and drinks
  • an amenity kit with travel essentials

Premium Economy is only available on our long-haul flights.

How to upgrade your travel class

1. Check availability

Use the upgrade tool on our website or in the Finnair app. If an upgrade isn’t currently available for your flight, Finnair Plus members paying with Avios or upgrade benefits can join a waitlist.

2. Choose payment method

Upgrade with Avios, upgrade benefits or cash. To use Avios or upgrade benefits, log in to your Finnair Plus account. We’ll deduct the Avios or upgrade benefits when you make your request and refund them if your upgrade isn’t confirmed. 

3. Request upgrade

If the upgrade is available, we’ll confirm it right away. If you’re placed on a waitlist, we’ll let you know whether you’ve received the upgrade no later than 48 hours before departure.

Upgrade prices

  • Cash upgrades have dynamic prices, so prices may vary over time.
  • Upgrades with Avios or upgrade benefits have fixed prices. Check upgrade charge tables for Finnair Plus members.

Prices are the same on the Finnair website and app.

Upgrade purchase cut-off times

You can upgrade online or in the Finnair app until:

  • 3 hours before departure from Helsinki
  • 8 hours before departure from North America and Asia
  • 24 hours before departure from Europe

Ticket changes and cancellation

The rules of your original ticket determine whether you can change or cancel your flight.
