Frequently asked questions

Can I bring spare batteries or power banks with me to the airplane?

Yes, you may carry spare batteries or power banks on board in your carry-on baggage, but not in checked baggage. Keep in mind that there are certain restrictions:

  • Spare lithium metal batteries containing up to 2 g of lithium and power banks with less than 100 Wh (watt-hours) are allowed in carry-on bags without Finnair’s prior approval.
  • Power banks with a capacity of more than 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh require prior approval from Finnair before travel. Please contact us if it applies to you.
  • Spare batteries containing more than 2 g of lithium and power banks over 160 Wh are not permitted at all.

For safety reasons, power banks should be stored under the seat in front of you or in a seat pocket, preferably not in the overhead bin.
