Refund form

With the form below, you can apply for a refund for an unused flight ticket, an unused part of your ticket or an undelivered, chargeable travel extra (for example a seat or a meal). If you booked your flight through a travel agent, please contact them for a refund.

You can apply for a refund for an unused flight ticket or a part of it, when the ticket rules allow it or if you don’t travel due to the following flight disruptions:

  • your flight is cancelled
  • your flight is delayed for more than 5 hours and the purpose of your trip is no longer valid
  • your flight is overbooked and you need to change flights.


If you have purchased Finnair Cancellation Cover and you were not able to travel due to sickness, you can apply for a refund on the Finnair Cancellation Cover Claim page.

If you have already used your flight ticket or travel extra, but want to apply for compensation or give feedback, you can do it through Feedback and claims page.

Our handling times

Our average handling time for refunds is approximately 7 days. Some requests may unfortunately take more time to be handled. We are sorry if we keep you waiting longer than expected.

We send you a confirmation email after we have received your request and after we have handled it.

Please send your request only once, as duplicates will delay handling the applications. If you have inbound and outbound flights in the same ticket, you need to complete the refund form only once.

In case you decide to cancel your reservation

  • Cancel your reservation first on the Manage booking page or through Finnair Customer Service.
  • Then apply for a refund using the form below.
  • If you want to apply for a refund for several bookings, note that you need to send a separate form for each booking.
  • Please note that a refund depends on your ticket type. If you are entitled to a refund, it will be calculated according to the fare rules of the ticket you have purchased. If you want to know the exact amount before cancelling the ticket, please contact our customer service.

In case we have cancelled your flight due to a flight disruption

  • Cancel your reservation first through Finnair Customer Service.
  • Then apply for a refund using the form below.
  • If we have cancelled all the flights in your reservation, you can apply for a refund without cancelling your reservation.
  • You can also apply for a refund after your flight departure date, until the end of 2020.
  • We will fully refund the unused part of your flight ticket if we have cancelled your flight due to flight disruption. If you have inbound and outbound flights in the same ticket, it’s enough to fill in the refund form once.

In case your flight is otherwise disrupted

  • Cancel your reservation first through Manage booking or Finnair Customer Service.
  • Then apply for a refund using the form below.
  • We will fully refund the unused part of your flight ticket if you choose not to travel due to a heavy delay of more than 5 hours or when you need to change flights because of a flight overbooking.
  • If coronavirus related travel restrictions prevent you from travelling to your destination, you can cancel your booking in Manage booking and apply for a refund for the unused part of your flight ticket. Please note that in this case, you need to provide us with documentation that your travel was prevented by the authorities in your destination country. It is good to know that a requirement for quarantine, for example, is not a travel restriction that allows a refund.

Refund options

We will pay the refund to the same credit card account or to another payment method that you used to purchase the ticket. It is good to know that the refund payment may be shown on the date your ticket was issued instead of the refund payment date.

When you apply for a refund for your unused flight ticket due to the coronavirus situation, you can also choose a Finnair gift voucher as a refund option.

With the gift voucher, you can book Finnair flights (with an AY code) through our website or our customer service. The voucher can’t be used as payment for travel extras.

The voucher is valid for one year. Please make the reservation during the validity of the voucher, but you can travel also later. The voucher is not personal, so you can give it to someone else or purchase flights for others as well. We send you the gift voucher within 7 days by email together with instructions for booking a flight with the voucher.

You can choose the gift voucher as a refund option, when you have paid your ticket fully with money, meaning through online banking or credit card. If you purchased your ticket fully or partly with Finnair Plus points, we refund your unused ticket to your bank account or credit card and return the points to your Finnair Plus account. If you purchased your ticket with Finnair gift voucher, we refund your unused ticket to your gift voucher with the same value.
