Discover Norway’s Arctic beauty on our new seasonal route
Situated above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, Tromsø is a town of about 70,000 inhabitants. Its breathtaking Arctic scenery is ideal for photography – and due to its location in the middle of the Aurora Borealis zone, Tromsø is also the ideal destination for viewing the exotic northern lights during clear winter nights.
Despite its relatively small size Tromsø offers many activities that visitors can enjoy. The town is a base for winter sports, such as downhill skiing, snowshoeing, dog and reindeer sledding and glacier hiking. Tromsø – or Romsa as it’s called in Sami languages – is also a centre of Sami culture in Norwegian Lapland and hosts Sami Week every February.
In Tromsø there are many attractions that reveal more about Norway’s fascinating history, such as the Polar Museum or the Tromsø Museum, which also hosts the word’s northernmost botanical garden. The town is also known for the Arctic Cathedral, a church that has become Tromsø’s most famous landmark.
