How does the upgrade waitlist work?
Finnair Plus members paying with Avios or upgrade benefits can join the upgrade waitlist when no upgrades are currently available. Here's what to expect.
When can I join the waitlist?
You can join the waitlist anytime between 360 days and 48 hours before departure.
When will I know if I’ve received the upgrade?
We'll let you know no later than 48 hours before departure. We start checking the waitlist 30 days before departure. If upgrades become available, we’ll confirm them straight away. Otherwise, we review the waitlist at least every four days.
Who gets priority on the waitlist?
The waitlist ranking system considers several factors to determine priority. In general, the higher your tier, the better your chances of receiving an upgrade.
We always confirm upgrades for the entire booking at once. For example, if you're on the waitlist with a booking for three people and only two upgrade seats become available, we won't be able to confirm the upgrade. In practice, it may be easier to receive an upgrade when travelling alone.
At the moment, neither you nor customer service can view your position on the waitlist.
What if I don't get the upgrade?
If we can’t confirm your upgrade by 48 hours before departure, your Avios or upgrade benefits will be automatically refunded within 24 hours. If your upgrade benefits expire while you're on the waitlist, they won't be refunded.
