Frequently asked questions

Can I bring spare batteries or power banks with me to the airplane?

Yes, you may carry spare batteries or power banks on board in your carry-on baggage, but not in checked baggage. Keep in mind that there are certain restrictions:

  • Spare lithium metal batteries containing up to 2 g of lithium and power banks with up to 100 watt-hours (Wh) are allowed in carry-on bags without Finnair’s prior approval.
  • You can carry max. 2 power banks per person.
  • Lithium-ion batteries of 100–160 Wh installed in a device in carry-on or checked baggage and spare lithium-ion batteries of 100–160 Wh (max. 2 per person) in carry-on baggage are allowed but require prior approval – contact us.
  • Spare batteries containing more than 2 g of lithium and power banks over 100 Wh are not permitted at all.

For safety reasons, power banks should be stored under the seat in front of you or in a seat pocket, preferably not in the overhead bin.

All devices must be completely switched off and effectively protected from accidental activation.
