Skanderbeg Square – Tirana’s main square, where Ottoman, Italian and modern influences form a unique architectural blend. Here, you’ll find the Et'hem Bey Mosque and the iconic Clock Tower.

Bunk’Art 1 – a vast Cold War–era bunker complex on the outskirts of Tirana, now transformed into a museum. It offers an immersive insight into Albania’s communist past through large‑scale exhibitions, art installations and preserved underground spaces.

Bunk’Art 2 – a smaller underground bunker museum beneath central Tirana that powerfully narrates Albania’s communist era. Its atmospheric spaces lead you through exhibitions on dictatorship, everyday life and political repression.

The Pyramid of Tirana – one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks, originally built as a museum in the late 20th century. Today, the pyramid is a symbol of Tirana’s transformation, reinvented as a lively cultural and social space you can even climb for city views.

Tirana Castle – a historic fortress area in the heart of the city, where centuries-old walls meet modern life. Inside, you’ll find charming cafés, small shops and restaurants, making it an atmospheric spot to pause and explore.

Grand Park – Tirana’s main green space, offering a peaceful break from the city. You can enjoy shaded walking paths, jogging routes and relaxed moments outdoors. At the centre of the park, the Artificial Lake offers scenic views, with relaxed café spots nearby.

Blloku district – once a restricted area, Blloku is now Tirana’s trendiest neighbourhood. You can enjoy stylish cafés, lively restaurants and a buzzing bar scene – ideal for an evening out.

Sights and activities near Tirana

Mount Dajti National Park – to marvel at the beautiful nature surrounding Tirana, venture on a 30-minute drive to Mount Dajti National Park. From there, take a cable car to the summit for awe-inspiring vistas and hiking trails that wind high above the city.

Shëngjergj Waterfall – a beautiful natural escape in the mountains east of Tirana, often combined with day trips to Mount Dajti National Park. It’s a scenic spot for easy hikes and cooling off near cascading waters. The journey there takes approximately an hour from Tirana by car.

Shëngjergj Village and surroundings – this rural area offers fresh mountain air, traditional Albanian food and tranquil countryside landscapes. The village lies around an hour from Tirana by car, making it an easy half‑day getaway.

Krujë – a picturesque hilltop town, ideal for a rewarding day trip from Tirana. While there, explore Krujë Castle, which offers panoramic views across the surrounding valley. And be sure not to miss the Old Bazaar – a historic market street lined with traditional artisan shops. The journey from Tirana to Krujë takes around an hour by bus or car.

Berat – this UNESCO‑listed ‘City of a Thousand Windows’ is approximately 2 hours from Tirana by car or 3 hours by bus. Visit the imposing Berat Castle on a hilltop or wander the historic Mangalem and Gorica quarters with their distinctive Ottoman houses. To enjoy a quieter moment after a day of sightseeing, take a scenic walk along the Osum River.

Beaches – if you wish to unwind by the sea, head to the Adriatic coast. Just about an hour’s drive from Tirana, the beaches of Durrës and Golem offer golden sands, shimmering waters and a relaxed seaside atmosphere.

Lake Bovilla – this beautiful turquoise reservoir lies about an hour’s drive from Tirana. It’s surrounded by dramatic cliffs, which makes it perfect for nature lovers. Popular guided hikes take you up Mount Gamti, offering spectacular views over the lake and canyon.

High season – typically from June to September. However, there are more visitors also during the Christmas season and New Year’s celebrations in December and early January.
