Rugged beauty and secluded beaches

The island of Lanzarote has been inhabited for thousands of years. It has rugged, desert-like terrain and little vegetation, and it’s different from the other Canary Islands in that almost all its buildings have been whitewashed. Lanzarote has plenty of small beaches and secluded bays, the most famous being Papagayo beach. You can also enjoy the sun while golfing, biking or hiking on the island.

The island’s silhouette has changed over the millennia after powerful volcanic eruptions. Many natural sights have developed as a result, including the cave systems of Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes lava tunnel – the underwater part of the tunnel is also known as the ‘Tunnel of Atlantis.’ The moonlike landscapes of the Timanfaya nature park are also worth seeing, and many movies have actually been filmed here.

Lanzarote’s main attraction is Puerto del Carmen, and along its long beach you’ll find everything you could wish for on your holiday. Seafood is Lanzarote’s specialty, and on the island you’ll find many fantastic restaurants offering great seafood dishes and other Spanish-style foods.
