On the flight with children

On this page, you can find useful information and links about baby bassinets and infant seatbelts, children's safety seats, children's mealtime as well as in-flight entertainment and internet access.

Baby bassinets and infant seatbelts

All Finnair long-haul flights have baby bassinets on them, and you can reserve a chargeable seat with the bassinet via Manage booking or in the Finnair app. If you have bought your flights or holiday package from a tour operator, you can still purchase your seat in Manage booking or in the Finnair app.

You may bring your own child seat or child car seat with you if your child is under 7 years old and you have reserved him or her a seat on board. Remember to read the safety requirements for your own infant seat or safety seat.

Our cabin crew will give you the baby bassinet and help you install it after take-off. The inside length of our baby bassinet is 70cm (27.5in), and the infant using the bassinet may not weigh more than 9kg (20lb).

If your child is under 2 years old, he or she must sit on an adult’s lap wearing a separate safety belt provided by the cabin crew, or in a child restraint device fastened to the aircraft seat – this is especially important during the take-off, landing and periods of irregularity (for example, those caused by turbulence).

Please note that everyone on board must sit in their own seat throughout the flight, including all children except for infants under 2 years of age.

Travelling in our renewed Business Class on long-haul flights

Please note that the new Business Class seats in our A350 and A330 aircraft do not support using a child seat. All children who have turned 2 years of age must use regular safety belts and be able to sit in the seat on their own for the whole flight. Due to the shell design of the Air Lounge seat, it is not possible to reach the child from another seat when the safety belt sign is on. Also, only one person is allowed per seat (excluding under 2-year-old infants).

If a child is unable to sit in their seat and use the safety belt properly, our cabin crew may need to move the child and their parent to another travel class, if there are seats available, to ensure everyone’s safety.

Our new Premium Economy Class is also a good choice when travelling with small children on long-haul flights.

Children’s mealtime

Our meal service concept is different depending on your travel class and destination. When flying on our intercontinental flights, meals are included in the ticket, and our cabin crew does their best to offer children their meals among the first passengers in order to ensure kids their preferred meal choice as well as a peaceful mealtime for the whole family.

If you are travelling with a baby, we suggest bringing your own baby food with you on board. We keep a few jars of baby food in reserve on all intercontinental flights, but availability is limited. You are allowed to bring milk and baby food into the cabin in its original, unopened packaging.

Inflight entertainment and internet access

On our intercontinental flights, our extensive in-flight entertainment services, including movies, games and music, are available for your family with options for all ages. It might also be fun to follow the flight route from the world map. A 3D aviation game is available on all our Airbus flights via Nordic Sky portal free of charge.

Internet access is available via Nordic Sky portal for a fee, and it can be bought on board as well as in advance in Manage booking or in the Finnair App.

On top of those, it may be a good idea to bring on board something fun to do for the children, as it might sometimes be tiring for the younger children to sit still for long periods of times at once.
