Booking a seat for an adult with an infant

The maximum number of infants per flight is limited to the amount of infant life jackets and infant/extension belts on-board. Infants shall NOT be seated on exit rows or at seats with airbag safety belts.

If infant has a seat (CHD ticket), infant must either sit on adult's lap with an extra belt or on CRD seat (which must be attached to the aircraft seat) during the take-off and landing.

If infant has a ticket in Business Class (either on own seat or on adult's lap) for Finnair long haul flights, please contact your local agent info in order to get more information about seating restrictions.

Seats with airbag safety belts may vary by aircraft type and version. Infant shall not be seated in seats with airbag safety belts regardless whether infant has his/her own seat or is sitting on an adult's lap.

Buying an infant his/her own seat

  • Book infant as a child passenger. Enter the date of birth of the infant to the passenger type element, e.g. (CHD/10AUG13).
  • The child's reservation is priced normally; infant with a seat pays a child fare.

Infant outbound – child homebound

These instructions apply when an infant turns 2 years of age during the journey. The guidelines below concern flights operated and sold by Finnair and are airline-specific. If other carriers are involved in the routing, check the procedure from, for example, the carrier's GGAIR pages.

According to international aviation regulations, a 2-year-old child always has to have a reserved seat.

The whole journey is sold at the child price, when the child will reach 2 years during the trip and the ticket fare used, requires that the out- and inbound flight are included in the same reservation. In these cases a seat has to be reserved for the child also for the outbound flight, even if the child is not yet 2 years old.

Infant to PNR afterwards

When an infant needs to be added to a reservation afterwards, please contact your local agent info.

Infant travelling one way

When an infant is travelling only on an outbound or inbound flight, but the adult is travelling with a return ticket, please contact your local agent info.

Use of child restraint device (CRD)

US approved CRDs manufactured after this date must bear the following labels in red lettering: 1) “This child restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards” and 2) “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aeroplanes”; or

e) CRDs qualified for use in aeroplane according to the German “Qualification Procedure for Child Restraint Systems for Use in Aircraft” (TÜV Doc.: TÜV/958-01/2001).
