See Finnair’s updated in-flight service for safer flying
Keeping our customers and crew safe is Finnair’s top priority, and as we start to ramp up our network, we’ve introduced a series of measures to ensure everyone feels comfortable and stays safe boarding the aircraft and in the air.
New boarding process
The changes start before you even board. Priority and business class boarding remains suspended, with boarding taking place from the rear of the aircraft to ensure social distancing is maximized and to avoid customers walking past each other wherever possible. When there are empty seats on a flight, separate groups will always be kept apart. Of course, families and those travelling together can still sit together.
Exiting the aircraft will take place in small groups, and we ask that you remain seated on arrival until asked to disembark. Customers should avoid moving around the cabin unnecessarily.
Our all–new Clean Kit
Every customer will receive a special ‘Clean Kit’ for use on their Finnair flight, including hand sanitizer, surface wipes and an information leaflet, as well as an envelope that acts as a waste container. These clean kits are uniquely Finnish – the hand sanitizer is made by Kyrö distillery, better known for its award–winning gin, all the paper uses sustainable Finnish forestry fibres. Even the artwork is by Finnish artist Reeta Ek.
Using sanitizer and surface wipes before and after meal services can help keep you safe. In addition, Finnair carries out stringent cleaning procedures when every flight is ‘turned’, including the cleansing of all surfaces, especially seat belts, tray tables and seat backs. We use a disinfecting cleaning agent on a daily basis.
Changes to in–flight food and drink services
In–flight service is expanding throughout August, with tea, coffee, juice and water available on flights within Finland and short flights in Europe, such as the route from Helsinki to Stockholm.
On longer European routes, biscuits or a sandwich may be served. On long haul flights, services are getting closer to normal, although there are limits on alcoholic beverages and the range of special meals available. You can read more about what’s available depending on the specific route you are taking here. There is no duty free available on board, and cash payments for food are not accepted.
Masks are mandatory
All customers must wear a mask for the duration of their flight, except while dining. These can be surgical or cloth coverings and must cover both your mouth and nose to prevent droplet transmission. Cabin crew will wear surgical masks throughout the flight. There is growing evidence that masks can mitigate the transmission of COVID–19. You will need to bring your own face mask, and will not be permitted to fly without one, although crew will have access to a limited supply on board.
In keeping with Finnair’s focus on sustainability, those masks supplied by our crew have been made and sourced from within Finland. Children under 7 years old do not need to wear a mask. Anyone with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask should contact Finnair at least 72 hours before flying. Hand luggage allowances have changed
Finnair has changed hand luggage allowance to ensure smoother boarding. The new, smaller dimensions for a carry-on bag are 55 x 40 x 23 cm and for a personal item 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Business class customers can bring two pieces of carry on as well as a personal item. Customers should keep smaller bags beneath seats and avoid standing up to access bags in overhead compartments.
