The city of roses
Situated on the island of Gotland, Visby is known for its well-preserved medieval city. With beautiful scenery and historical attractions, Visby is an ideal summer holiday destination.
Visby was an important Hanseatic town in the Middle Ages. The old centre is still encircled by a 3,4-kilometre-long stone wall built in the 13th century. To celebrate the city’s heritage, Medieval Week is held every August, complete with markets, jousting, street theatre, craft courses and more.
Enjoy a day strolling around the colourful streets and sip a coffee in one of the many small cafés. Visby is a lovely sight in the summer – so many different types of roses grow throughout the city, that it is sometimes referred to as the “the city of roses.” The flowers bloom until late autumn, and even up until the end of the year in the botanical gardens.
The airport is located just outside the city.
