A surfers' paradise

If you enjoy surfing, Fuerteventura is your paradise. The second largest of the Canary Islands entices tourists all year round with its rugged natural beauty and pleasant weather conditions.

Fuerteventura is located on volcanically active land and is the closest to the African coast of all the Canary Islands. Fuerteventura is also the oldest of the islands, and rock types found on the island have been dated as far back as 20 million years. Fuerteventura is quieter than its neighbours and rather rugged and desert-like, but it’s still said to have some of Europe’s best beaches – golden sands as far as the eye can see. The rolling waves of the Atlantic shimmer in beautiful hues of turquoise and green, and the sun shines year-round on these picture-perfect shorelines.

There’s plenty more to do in Fuerteventura than just lounging on the beach – try water sports, hike up the hills or get to know the area’s history. Explore historical sites in the island’s oldest city Betancuria, and enjoy the idyllic feel of the small fishing village El Cotillo. South of Corralejo are some big sand dunes, and a short boat trip away is the serene nature reserve island of Isla de Lobos.
