Tranquil temples, colourful youth fashion and volcanic natural parks – Taiwan is one of the most fascinating holiday destinations in Asia. To get an idea of the huge size of the capital city Taipei, ascend to the observation deck of the 500-metre-high Taipei 101 tower. Taipei’s magnificent landmark looks like a gigantic bamboo stalk rising above the city. Great views can also be admired from the hills of Maokong, reached easily by a gondola with a glass bottom. On Maokong, visit the temples and tea rooms.
The National Palace Museum houses the world’s largest collection of Chinese art: calligraphy, sculpture and ceramics. The district of Ximending is the centre of youth culture, where the street view resembles that of Tokyo’s legendary Harajuku.
