Costa del Sol – Sun, culture and beaches in one
The Sun Coast of Spain is all about beautiful towns and cities, mesmerising beaches and awe-inspiring Mediterranean scenery – all under the bright sun of Andalusia.
Already established by Phoenicians, Málaga is a port city known for its beach promenades bordered by palm trees, but the capital of the Sun Coast is also a rising cultural destination. In Málaga, for example, the Pompidou Art Centre and the Picasso Museum – named after and dedicated to Pablo Picasso who was born in Málaga – will satisfy the cultural thirst. A historical atmosphere can be found in the Moorish Alcazaba palatial fortification or in the Roman Theater.
The old town’s extensive pedestrian road, Calle Marques Larios, and its charming narrow streets are central to Málaga’s restaurant and shopping scenes. On a trip to Málaga, one should visit some of the tapas bars of the old town’s labyrinthine alleys – here the authentic Andalusian atmosphere is especially rich.
The all-time favourites for sun-worshippers in the Costa del Sol are Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolinos. The attractions of this city trio are definitely the fine-sandy beaches that continue for a kilometer after a kilometer. However, you can also head to a golf course, enjoy the buzzing nightlife or have fun in the amusement, water and zoological parks.
