Munich – a holiday in the city of beer and robots
Created by Mondo for Finnair
What do Mozart, Lenin and Marcel Duchamp have in common? They have all sat and had a beer in the most legendary beer hall, Hofbräuhaus am Platzl. Visiting the beer hall, opened in 1589, might have become a cliché in Munich, but what a lovely cliché it is!
A city break in Munich, the beer capital of Germany, is a beer lover’s dream come true. Munich’s beer halls and beer gardens are its most important attraction. Centuries have not made the most historical beer halls obsolete, and they continue to be patronised by locals, like before. There is hardly a better place to feel the Bavarian joy of living.
In addition to beer, the affluent Munich is known for its stellar museums, FC Bayern München and the head office of BMW and the adjacent BMW Welt, which has become one of the most popular attractions in the city. The enormous exhibition space is like a shrine to German engineering. Visitors can also combine their holiday in Munich with a tour at the BMW factory: the largely automated factory is like a window into the future where robots do all the work.
