Holiday in Chiang Mai – city break in the midst of nature
Created by Mondo for Finnair
A breeze rings the tiny bells hanging from the eaves of the temple. They are ringing out prayers. On top of a jungle-covered hill stands Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of Thailand’s most beautiful and sacred temples. Beneath in the green valley is Chiang Mai.
While Chiang Mai is one of Thailand’s largest cities, its ambience is wonderfully village-like. At the heart of Chiang Mai is the old town surrounded by a moat. The buildings are low, the temples magnificent.
Outside the old town spreads a vibrant student city with its trendy Nimmanhaem Road. The street is lined with inviting boutiques, quirky cafés and lively night spots. Prices in Chiang Mai are considerably lower than in Bangkok or Thailand’s beach destinations.
Lush rice fields and jungle-clad hills begin immediately outside the city. Many travel to Chiang Mai to start on their hike through the exotic mountain communities, but end up spending a lot more time on their city break than they had planned.
