Spain

Palm trees are swaying in the gentle breeze that pushes nicely against your back on your cycling trip. Alicante sea promenade, Explanada de España, is paved with colourful marble tiles. The road leads to a white sandy beach—we are soon swimming in the sea!
Alicante is the jewel in the Mediterranean coast of Costa Blanca. The landmark of the city is the fortified Santa Bárbara Castle on top of Mount Benacantil. From the walls of the castle a view opens over the popular beach of Playa del Postiguet. Culture travellers head for the Gothic Basílica of Santa Maria or the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art, MACA, with collections that include works by Miró, Dalí and Picasso.
Combining a beach holiday and a city break is easy in Alicante. Costa Blanca is a holiday destination catering for diverse tastes: sandy beaches, cultural treasures as well as theme parks for the family and several top-class golf courses. Day trips can be made to the Tabarca island of great natural beauty, the peculiar stalagmite caves of Canelobre, and the historical mountain village of Guadalest.
