NEW TICKET TYPE USER GUIDE FOR FOR TRAVEL AGENTS

Customers wish to have a choice to tailor their travel experience based on their personal needs. We are now responding to this need by introducing a more unified and simple ticket type offering. There will for example be more ticket types in Business Class and at the same time we will make selecting the most suitable fare based on flexibility or other benefits easier for our customers. And regardless of the ticket type, our customers can always further tailor their travel experience with our wide selection of travel extras.

The old ticket types Pro and Value will be rebranded and will in the future be called Flex and Classic respectively – with more streamlined benefits and unified offering across our network. At the same time, the ticket types Basic and Saver in markets where have been available will cease to exist. The ticket type Light will also be introduced to more markets, having previously been available only on European routes, transatlantic flights and flights to Japan. The same ticket types– Flex, Classic and Light – will be then available in both travel classes, Business and Economy.

This means that we will introduce a completely new ticket type called Business Light on selected routes with limited flexibility for those who are looking for the comfort of Business Class travel without a need to have checked-in luggage. The new Business Light ticket type will be introduced in autumn 2020.

The new Business Light product will be available in booking class I while the Business Classic product will be available in new booking class R.

More detailed information about the new ticket types can be found below.

How do I find the new ticket types in the reservation system?

The ticket type related functionality will remain the same in travel agencies as with the old ticket types (branded fares). The new fare family names and codes to be used in pricing entries (e.g. in fare display, FQD.../AAY/FF) are BFLEX, BCLASSIC and BLIGHT for the business class fares and EFLEX, ECLASSIC and ELIGHT for the economy class fares.

  • E.g. FXP/FF-ECLASSIC (E=Economy + CLASSIC) and FXB/FF-BLIGHT (B=Business + LIGHT)

What do I need to do with the old bookings which have been made prior to the ticket type renewal?

Nothing; the existing bookings will remain valid with the existing fare rules as they are until the ticket has been used. From the 31st of March onwards it is only possible to buy tickets with the new ticket types.

What do I do when I need to change an existing ticket which has been issued before the 31st of March?

After the launch of new ticket types on the 31st of March 2020, old ticket types are no longer sellable as a first issue. If you need to make changes to tickets with old ticket types, please observe the following simple guidelines;

  • When only the date and/or flight number changes -> ticket is revalidated (as per ATC suggestion, with applicable penalty) and the existing ticket type and the benefits will remain the same
  • When airport/RBD changes -> ticket is reissued/exchanged (as per ATC suggestion)
    • Change after departure (partially used ticket) -> historical fares used and old ticket type still valid
    • Change before departure, no change to the first fare component (totally unused ticket) -> historical fares used and old ticket type still valid
    • Change before departure including the first fare component (totally unused ticket) -> new fares and ticket types applicable

Please note! ATC will support automatically calculated changes in most cases when the original ticket has been issued during this year. If ATC reply is: “NO FARE FOR BOOKING CODE-TRY OTHER PRICING OPTIONS”, please check the conditions manually and price accordingly

Also make note of the exceptional change conditions (changes are allowed without penalty) which are applicable due to the corona virus situation. For our new ticket types, ATC supports this policy automatically.

You can find your local agent help desk contact details at contact us - page.

The Economy Comfort seat was included in the current Economy Pro fare when I made the booking. What happens with the benefit after the 31st of March?

Finnair will secure the benefit in the existing bookings by automatically adding an SK element to those bookings which have been made in booking classes Y, B and H with the previous Economy Pro fare. The SK element will be shown and RESTRICTED element to the booking office to prevent accidental removal of the benefit. In case of change to a booking which includes the Economy Comfort benefit, the SK element will automatically apply to the new flight segment after the change.

What are the changes to Finnair’s corporate agreements?

There will not be any changes made to the corporate discounts. As the fare rules are linked to the published fare rule of the respective existing ticket type brand, in the future the fare rules will be applied as follows:
old ticket type Business -> new ticket type Business Flex
old ticket type Business Saver -> new ticket type Business Classic (where applicable)
old ticket type Economy Pro -> new ticket type Economy Flex
old ticket type Economy Value -> new ticket type Economy Classic

There is also one change in one specific booking class;

  • if the corporate agreement has included a discount for our current higher Business Saver ticket type, the existing higher Business Saver fare type discounts in booking class I will automatically be changed to apply in the new Business Classic ticket type in booking class R
  • if the corporate agreement has included a discount for our current lower Business Saver ticket type, the existing lower Business Saver fare type discounts in booking class I will automatically be changed to apply in the new Business Classic ticket type in booking class I (only available on ticket types from Asia to Europe)

There will not be a discount given from the new I class Business Light ticket type.

When are you launching the fares and ticket types for the new Premium Economy travel class?

The details for the new Premium Economy travel class will be introduced later in 2020.

We are providing an online booking tool to our corporate customers. Do we need to do something to adjust the online booking tool?

There are no major changes expected in the online booking tools provided by the business travel agencies. However it is of course advisable that you check that all the relevant information about the new ticket types appear correctly in the online booking tool, including the new booking class R for the business class fare(s). You can always check www.finnair.com/easy for the most up-to-date agent information.

Are there any other changes expected at this point?

Yes; we will - at the same time with the ticket type renewal - streamline our fare basis structure to be in line with our partner airlines’ fare basis structure.

The fare brand name will be visible in the new fare basis’ 7th character; for example

KNN0S3BE – Light fare brand (B = Light)
ZNN0S3CE – Classic fare brand (C = Classic)
HNN0S0FE – Flex fare brand (F = Flex)
