Peace of mind for your travels with Finnair Corona Cover and insurance
During the corona pandemic, travelling comes with new kinds of questions, also when it comes to insurances. What does my travel insurance cover? Does it also cover medical expenses and quarantine costs if I get sick with the coronavirus while in my destination? And what if I need to suddenly cancel my trip?
We gathered an information package about the different insurance options that bring added peace of mind and security for your travels also during the pandemic.
Travel insurance for all your travels
We recommend taking travel insurance for all your trips, as travel insurance offers comprehensive coverage against surprising situations that you might face during your travels. Before leaving for your trip, it’s good to check what your travel insurance, in fact, does cover, and what is not included. For instance, some travel insurance options don’t cover medical expenses and quarantine costs if you get sick with the coronavirus while travelling.
Added security with Finnair Corona Cover
We want to offer you added security and peace of mind with the new Finnair Corona Cover. It complements your own travel insurance but doesn’t replace it.
We will add Finnair Corona Cover to your ticket without any additional cost when you have bought your ticket from Finnair.com, Finnair app or through our customer service by 30 April 2021 and your flight departs by 31 August 2021. The cover is included in your ticket when you travel abroad from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy or Spain for a maximum of 31 days. Also, Aurinkomatkat customers get the benefit for their foreign holidays.
“Many people are now worried about getting infected during their trip. The most usual travel insurance types might not necessarily cover medical expenses caused by a pandemic, nor do they cover quarantine costs. With Finnair Corona Cover, we wish to minimise worries related to travelling during the corona pandemic, and we do everything we can to ensure our customers’ peace of mind when travelling with us,” says Salla Rinta-Kanto who is responsible for travel extras at Finnair.
If you get the coronavirus infection in your destination, Finnair Corona Cover covers coronavirus related medical expenses, a coronavirus test with a positive test result as well as additional quarantine related costs. The insurance covers also a new return flight if you miss the original one due to the infection. You will get these benefits without an additional cost no matter your destination, as long as your trip originates from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy or Spain, and you travel to another country.
The insurance is provided by AIG, which is also the insurance provider for Finnair’s other, chargeable travel insurances.
When will I need cancellation coverage?
Sometimes, there can be changes in your travel plans. Someone from your travel party might, for example, fall ill right before your departure. It’s good to know that when you decide to cancel your trip on your own, the right to get refunded depends on your ticket type. Some ticket types entitle you to the right to a refund, while others do not include the benefit.
In case you’re worried about getting sick in your home country right before your trip, you can purchase Finnair Cancellation Cover for your ticket. If you can’t travel because you or your family member gets sick or into an accident, the Cancellation Cover gives you the option to get a refund for your ticket and any travel extras you might have purchased.
Because of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, we also currently offer flexibility in changing travel dates with our flexible booking policy. You can book your flights with confidence and change your travel dates easily afterwards if needed.
