Experience these
Tokyo is the commercial and cultural center of Japan. And that is saying something. There is an endless number of shopping centers, museums, theaters, and venues telling the history of the country. So there is plenty to see.
High towers and imperial grandeur
If you are not afraid of heights, head for Tokyo City Hall. It consists of two skyscrapers, both 243 meters tall. Another great view is from the Tokyo Tower, which is a replica of the Eiffel Tower, although taller.
The gardens of Tokyo Imperial Palace
One of the cultural must-sees in Tokyo is the gardens and museums of Tokyo Imperial Palace. The Sensō-ji temple is also a popular sight, and for a good reason.
Elvises are alive and well
You can see the Japanese Elvises, well known from Tokyo travel guides, live in the Yoyogi Park. In nearby Harajuku, the young people dress to impress, especially on Sundays.
Sumo
Ryōgoku, and the Kokugikan stadium within, is the center of Japanese sumo wrestling. Sumo tournaments are held in Tokyo three times a year, in January, May, and September. The Ryōgoku area also hosts a sumo museum, and there is the chance to spot real sumo wrestlers. The cheapest tickets cost less than 20 euros.
Endless fun for children and the young at heart
There is one problem for children and the young at heart when visiting Tokyo: One week just isn’t enough to see all amusement and theme parks. Perhaps a two-week holiday is worth considering!
Tokyo Disneyland
The world's largest Disney theme park is located a short distance from the center of Tokyo. This place is definitely worth seeing.
Studio Ghibli
In the museum of the animation film studio Ghibli you can learn about Japanese anime. And not just by looking or reading, but by playing! The museum is an amazing place that surpasses even the wildest dreams of children. Reserve tickets beforehand, as the place is very popular.
Other sights for children
The Tokyo Joypolis, based on the Sega video games, is a must. Other places in the vicinity of Tokyo include the Hello Kitty theme park and the Tokyo Dome City amusement park.
