Getting around
Nagoya has a clear city plan and an excellent subway, which makes the city easy for visitors to get around. The city is known for its cleanliness and the many parks located in the center. Nagoya has always been an important transit destination and crossroads.
Getting around in Nagoya is easy
The extensive subway network in Nagoya is often the fastest way to move around. And where the subway stops, local trains or buses take over.
The subway takes you to all main stations and traffic hubs in the city. The terminal stations for buses and the hub of all traffic is the Nagoya railway station. Taxis can easily be hailed from the street, and are a good solution for short journeys and when public transport is closed.
Public transport in Nagoya is cheap, especially if you have bought a Japan Rail Pass before starting your journey. The pass is valid on the subway, but day tickets are quite affordable as well.
The fastest way to get to the city from the airport is to take a train or a shuttle bus. There is also a boat connection to Tsu in the Mien province.
Travel quickly between cities on the bullet train
Travel by train in Japan whenever possible. Thanks to the bullet trains, moving from city to city is fast and, if you buy a Japan Rail Pass before leaving home, affordable.
Experience several cities on the same trip
The bullet trains, traveling at over 300 kilometers per hour, are a convenient way of traveling between cities. For example, the trip from Nagoya to Kyoto is only 40 minutes, to Osaka less than an hour, and to Tokyo less than two hours.
The Japan Rail Pass is worth it
If you intend to make more than one train trip, buying a Japan Rail Pass is well worth it, since separately-bought tickets can be expensive. The pass allows you to use the bullet trains freely for one week. Please note that you can only purchase the Japan Rail Pass outside of Japan.
