What to do in Split
As one of the oldest cities in the area, Split has many historical attractions. At the very centre and heart of the city is Diocletian’s palace, one of the most remarkable ancient Roman structures that still exist. This massive complex includes 220 buildings and is home to about 3,000 people. Wander around the vast, fortress-like remains, enjoy the many restaurants and bars within its walls and experience the historical atmosphere still vividly present. Visit the Split Archaeological Museum to learn about the area’s history or see some beautiful works of local art dating back to the 14th century at the Gallery of Fine Arts.
To get a different view of the city, rent a bike and enjoy the striking waterfront or climb up to the top of Marjan hill to enjoy a breathtaking view over the city. A must while in Split is also to visit a wine cellar and taste the delicious, world-renowned specialities of the Dalmatian area. Split is one of the destinations in which you can find countless mouth-watering options ranging from Black Risotto to many delicious fish, meat and vegetarian specialities.
To maximise your holiday mood, sunbathe and swim at the popular Bacvice beach, which is only a short walk away from the city centre, or relax at the less crowded Kasjuni Beach favoured by the locals. The calm waters make Split a great place to try out stand up paddling (SUP) – take a SUP tour at sunset to make the experience even more magical!
