Transport of firearms and ammunition
Firearms
Sporting and hunting firearms are carried as checked baggage in the hold of the aircraft. The firearm must be unloaded and appropriately packed, so that it will not be damaged during the flight. To prevent breakage, we recommend a hard-shell case for packing the firearm. Firearms to be transported on the flight must be mentioned when making the reservation. In addition to the firearm, the passenger may transport a maximum of 5 kg or 11 lbs. of ammunition, which must be safely packed, away from the firearm. The firearm and ammunition may be carried in the same container. It is the passenger's responsibility to find out about country-specific restrictions and to obtain the licences required at destination. A handling fee of 25 euros is always charged for firearms regardless of their weight and size.
Ammunition
Only securely packed small arms ammunition, Division 1.4S will be accepted for carriage. The maximum amount of ammunition allowed is 5 kg or 11 lbs. per passenger; a single piece of baggage may also contain a maximum of 5 kg or 11 lbs. of ammunition. Ammunition must be securely packed in locked, hard-shell boxes. Ammunition may be transported in the same container as the firearm, but there should be no ammunition in the gun itself.
Flights to Manchester
On flights to Manchester, only regular hunting and sporting rifles and hunting and sporting clay shotguns may be transported. The maximum amount of shots may not exceed two cartridges. Transport of pistols and revolvers, automatic and semi-automatic weapons, self-loading or pump-action rifles of a calibre higher than .22R, are not permitted on board the flight. Passengers are responsible for formalities of customs clearance on arrival in Manchester. In addition, passengers must be able to show British authorities where they are going to compete or hunt. Passengers must be able to show an invitation to a competition or from a landowner and a hunting permit or equivalent.
