Baggage Fees and Optional Travel Fees

Baggage

You may carry a certain amount of checked baggage free of charge. When you exceed your baggage allowance, you will have to pay an excess-baggage fee (see table below).

Excess- and special-baggage fees

The following table contains excess-baggage and special-baggage fees for Finnair flights. Each fee is for flights in one direction only.

Fees are in euros, EUR (or the equivalent local currency where the excess fee is collected). When departing from Canada, the fees quoted are collected in CAD. When departing from USA, the fees quoted are collected in USD.

Reservations

The Finnair telephone service number in USA, +1 800 950 5000, is toll-free. Please check service numbers in other countries.

Service fees

In USA no Internet service fee is collected for purchasing tickets. In telephone sales a fee of $25 is charged for all Finnair tickets, $20 for reissue of ticket, $25 for name correction and $75 for refund. Service fees of other countries can be checked from the website of each country.
Taxes and other fees to the authorities are included in the ticket price.

Change fee

Change fee depends on your ticket fare type. If you have a changeable ticket the change fee is between $200- $400. In addition to the change fee, the fare difference (if applicable) and a reissue fee are collected when the routing or fare type changes. There is no change fee in Value, PRO or Business Class tickets.

Seating

You may reserve an Economy Class seat in advance for flights operated and marketed by Finnair (the flight number in the ticket starts with AY and the ticket number starts with 105). Read more about Select Your Seat

Note

Paying for the seat is not obligatory and passengers can continue to select a seat free of charge according to the availability in online check-in 36 hours before the flight. Finnair aims to seat families travelling with children together.

Service onboard

Service in Business Class on Finnair flights is always free of charge.

The food service is free of charge in Economy Class on intercontinental flights. Snacks are also sold onboard for a fee of $3-$5. Drinks are free of charge, except hard liquors and sparkling wine, which are sold for a fee of $8. On flights to and from New York and Bangkok, wine and beer with the meal are free of charge, and sold for a fee of $6-$13 after the meal service.

The meal service in Economy Class on Finnair operated European flights lasting more than 2 hours is free of charge. Snacks are also sold onboard for a fee of $3-$5. On the shortest flights coffee, tea or juice are served free of charge. On flights lasting between 1 and 2 hours snacks and alcoholic drinks are also sold. Beer, wine and hard liquor are subject to a fee of $6-$13. Sandwiches are sold on flights lasting between 1 and 1.5 hours for a fee of $9. On flights operated by Flybe the service fees of Flybe apply.

On Finnair operated flights within Finland coffee, tea or juice is served free of charge. On flights to and from northern Finland snacks and soft drinks are also sold for a fee of $3-$5. Alcoholic drinks may be purchased on these flights departing after 09:00 for a fee of $6-$13. Sandwiches are sold on flights lasting between 1 hour and 1.5 hours for a fee of $9. On flights operated by Flybe from Helsinki to Joensuu, Kuopio, Tampere, Turku, Vaasa and vice versa, the service charges of Flybe apply.

Code-share flights

Optional service charges on Finnair (AY) code-share flights operated by other airlines may differ from Finnair's charges. Please check the operating carriers' website for further information, for example American Airlines' optional charges.
