Text message check-in

Finnair passengers using a self-service check-in kiosk

As a Finnair Plus member, you will receive a check-in text message from Finnair before your flight. You can check in by replying to this message.

Our easy-to-use text message service works on all mobile phone models and with all operators, and does not require any extra settings. You will only be charged the price of one normal text message.

Which flights and ticket types does the service apply to?

  • Finnair domestic and international flights and Flybe AY3000 series flights departing from Finland.
  • Finnair  flights departing from Amsterdam, Bergen, Brussels, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London, Madrid, Manchester, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Riga, Stockholm, Tallinn, Vilnius or Warsaw.
  • Connecting flights operated by Finnair or Flybe AY3000 series that depart from Helsinki Airport.
Please note that you cannot check in by text-message for the following types of flight:
  • code-share flights operated by one of Finnair’s partner airlines
  • Finnair leisure flights departing from a destination outside Finland
  • Finnair Plus award flights
  • Flights that are part of a journey that includes a connecting flight operated by another airline

How to start using the service

You can start using the service by adding your mobile phone number to your Finnair Plus profile. Please remember to keep your mobile phone number up to date. You can also start using the service by including your phone number in your booking information.

How to check in

  • You will receive a text message from Finnair containing information about your flight. Check the information.
  • Confirm your check-in by replying to the text message – your reply should contain the letter “A” only.
  • Once we have confirmed your check-in, we will send you a confirmation message in English. Keep this message so that you can show it to security and passport control.
  • If your flight departs from Finland or Sweden, it is enough to show the confirmation message at the airport.
  • If you are departing from any other airport, the confirmation text message will include a link to your mobile boarding pass, which you must show to various authorities as you pass through the airport.
To open the link, your phone must have a functioning Internet connection. If this is not the case, please pick up a paper boarding pass from a check-in desk or Baggage Drop desk.

If your flight departs in the morning, you will receive your check-in prompt between 17:00 and 19:00 on the previous evening. If your flight departs in the afternoon, you will receive your check-in prompt approximately three hours beforehand.

Baggage

If you only have carry-on baggage and the appropriate documents, most airports will allow you to go directly to the security check and then to your gate. If you have baggage to be checked in, simply leave it at the check-in or Baggage Drop desk during the check-in period of your flight.
