Bergen

The picture-perfect Bergen is a historic Hanseatic town, and its old harbour district of Bryggen is on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites list. The colourful wooden houses in Bryggen are framed by their magnificent backdrop of the mountains. This is Norway's second largest city, and is a hiker's dream come true. Hiking trails on the Fløyen mountain are accessible by a funicular in no time. Other ways to take in Norway's breathtaking scenery are by taking a fjord cruise or the Ulriksbanen aerial tramway (which has a top height of over 600 metres). After a refreshing day in the outdoors, the freshly caught delicacies of the fish market are just what you need.
Bergen museums and galleries are the perfect pastime for rainy days. Take a look at the architecture of the wooden houses, experience life in a Hanseatic town or learn about the activities of the Norwegian resistance during World War II. Hurtigruten, one of the most beautiful ship routes in the world, starts from Bergen and continues along the coast all the way to Tromsø and Kirkenes up north.
