Norrköping

Norrköping

Norrköping used to be the centre of the Swedish textile and paper industry in the 19th century, but it has rapidly transformed from an industrial city to a vital city of culture. The red brick factory buildings along the banks of the Motala Ström River now house an extensive range of museums and terrace restaurants, as well as the beautiful Louis de Geer concert hall. The idyllic landscape of the beautifully restored industrial area split by canals is crowned by the spectacular Kungsfallet waterfall.

Other sights worth seeing in Norrköping, known as the Manchester of Sweden, include the city museum, a cactus park and Arbetets Museum (the museum of work). Children will find the Kolmården Zoo the best part of their holiday. The largest zoo in the Nordic Countries has a dolphinarium and a safari park where visitors can observe animals from their cars.
