Finnair and Marimekko’s design collaboration
Marimekko’s designs have become an inherent part of the Finnair air travel experience over the past few years. Today, the Marimekko for Finnair collection of textiles and tableware, featuring Marimekko’s classic patterns, are used on all Finnair aircraft.
The Marimekko for Finnair collection has been specially designed to add a light and fresh visual dimension to the on-board experience, while also reducing aircraft weight.
Since 2012, a Finnair Airbus 340 painted in Marimekko’s blue Unikko print has been flying from our Helsinki hub to Finnair destinations in Asia. Starting at the end of 2014, a Finnair Airbus 330 featuring a previously unseen Anniversary Unikko colourway will join its sister on our intercontinental routes.

The calm blue, green and light grey tones and the classic prints used in the Marimekko for Finnair collection tell the story of Finland’s thousands of lakes and beautiful, clean nature from the up-in-the-air perspective that flying offers.
The fresh and harmonious designs of the Marimekko for Finnair collection are a perfect reflection of the Nordic tranquillity and comfort that is present on our flights. All the materials, including the light porcelain used in the Business Class tableware are specially designed for aircraft usage.
The patterns of the legendary Marimekko designer, Maija Isola, also reflect the freedom of flying and the new perspectives it presents. These Isola classics have taken new forms in the collection tailored especially for in-flight use by Marimekko designer Sami Ruotsalainen.
