While you are browsing Finnair's Internet pages we may ask you to submit and we may process data that is personal to you, including but not limited to your name, user id and password, organisation, phone number, e-mail and mail addresses. We may also require you to submit your credit card number and expiry date. We may process such Personal Data as required for the purposes of, inter alia, marketing, correctly identifying you, properly supplying services or goods to you, and responding to your contacts or contacting you.
When you make a booking with us or request a brochure and submit your personal information to us, we will record the information principally so that we can serve you better. We also retain the recorded data including your purchase history and which of our services and facilities you use. Your information may be used and retained for
- billing and auditing,
- credit or other payment card verification and anti-fraud screening (this may involve the use of credit reference agency searches and nominal payment card revalidation checks, for example),
- immigration and customs control purposes,
- safety, security, health, administrative and legal purposes,
- statistical and marketing analysis,
- frequent flyer programme operations,
- systems testing, maintenance and development,
- customer surveys, and
- customer relations.
We can also use the data to help us in any future dealings with you, for example by identifying your requirements and preferences. To be able to do all this, we may disclose your data to
- other companies in the Finnair Group,
- airlines and other companies involved in meeting your requirements,
- our oneworld partner airlines and franchisees,
- data processing companies,
- travel agents,
- government and enforcement agencies,
- credit and charge card companies,
- credit reference agencies, and
- screening service providers.
These instances may retain your data in accordance with applicable laws. Disclosing data may involve sending your data between different countries, including countries outside the European Economic Area. Please note that you may have fewer legal rights under the local laws of some of these countries.
Finnair and other airlines are required by laws in the USA and other countries to allow Customs and Border Protection to access the booking and travel information. Accordingly any information we hold about you and your travel arrangements may be disclosed to the customs and immigration authorities of any country in your itinerary and authorities of countries your flight flies over.
We will not use your data to contact you for direct marketing purposes without your consent. However, if you abandon a booking mid-way through the booking process, we may contact you to understand the reasons why.
With your permission, we may send you information about our exclusive fares, special offers and other news from the Finnair Group. To provide you with information we think could interest you, we may look into your purchase history. We can also combine the data you give us about yourself with the information we have gathered about your use of our website via cookies, so that we can improve our knowledge about your interests.
You can sign up for direct marketing by registering on our website. We will also ask if you want to receive direct marketing from us when you
- join the Finnair Plus frequent flyer program,
- make a booking with us,
- request a brochure from one the Finnair Group companies, or
- enter a competition or register for a promotion with any company within the Finnair Group.
We do our best in trying to ensure that we will not send duplicate messages to those customers who have given us more than one marketing consents. If you are a Finnair Plus member, we will communicate with you as such, and if you are not a Finnair Plus member but have signed up for marketing communications by registering online, we will communicate with you as a registered customer.
We may share your details within the Finnair Group. The Finnair Group consists of Finnair plc and a number of subsidiary companies, including in particular Sun Tours Ltd (Oy Aurinkomatkat Ab).
We will not share your data with companies outside the Finnair Group for direct marketing purposes. If, in some exceptional circumstances, we ever wanted to allow a third party to send your direct marketing, we would ask for your approval before sharing any information.
Ordinarily we will send you direct marketing by email as long as we have your email address. Nevertheless, in some cases we may choose to contact you for example via telephone, SMS or post.
In case you want to stop receiving direct marketing messages from us, it is easy to unsubscribe any time: unsubscription directions are included in every direct marketing message we send you.
Please note that even if you unsubscribe from our direct marketing channels, we will still send you confirmation and service messages regarding any bookings you make with us. Also, if you are a Finnair Plus member, we will still keep you informed about your membership benefits and entitlements.
SITE USAGE DATA AND COOKIES
We may compile data on the usage, traffic volumes, transactions and other related statistics of our web sites and may process and analyse such data. We may also acquire such data on aggregate levels from reputable third parties or disclose such data to them. Aggregate level data cannot be de-compiled or reduced to Personal Data or other information regarding any particular person.
While you are browsing Finnair's Internet pages, we may send to your computer over the Internet one or more small files known as Cookies. Cookies contain information that allows us to identify the computer you are using and lets us know certain aspects of usage of our web sites by you. You will notice the presence of a Cookie for instance when certain data that you have previously submitted to us, such as your address, is automatically completed in a field by your browser.
