Moscow

Moscow

Inhabited by nine million people, Moscow is a treasure-trove of architecture, history and art. At the heart of the city lies what is perhaps the most famous square in the world, the Red Square, where you can find Saint Basil's Cathedral known for its colourful onion-shaped domes and Lenin’s mausoleum. Surrounded by a tall wall, Kremlin is like a small city within the city; Russia’s administrative centre is full of beautiful cathedrals, museums and palaces, which make it a very interesting place to visit. The legendary GUM luxury shopping mall on the Red Square is worth visiting – for some window shopping at the least.

Visit the Bolshoi Theatre to see world-famous ballet performances, or the Tretjakov State Gallery or the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts to marvel at fabulous collections of Russian art. The city is proud of its culinary traditions, too: apart from Russian delicacies, Moscow offers treats such as sushi or true gourmet experiences served by Michelin starred chefs.

Must see:

Take a river boat to Gorky Park on a warm summer day.

Fun fact:

Moscow has seven completely identical buildings known as "the seven sisters": two hotels, two administrative buildings, two apartment blocks and the Moscow State University.
